Very strange. Something was done during the procedure that is keeping hot water from the heater inside the car. Got to find out what is stopping that flow. You did all the right things, replacing thermostat, etc....this is a head scratcher...

The gas gage on my '97 Subaru Outback Wagon works sporadicly. I've had the sending unit replaced twice and the gage works well for about 3 months and fails again.

if the sending unit has been replaced and it works for a while then acts up again check the electrical plug and connections also look for a broken wire or nicks in the wires coating as corrosion inside the wire will cause a problem that circuit works by resistance not voltage

Yes it is. The camshafts have to come out in order to get to the tappets. That would not be an issue but your horizontal opposed engine is wedged between the frame and would not give proper room to adjust(change) your tappets. On the Subaru, it is impossible to do this job without pulling the cylinder heads out of the car. Please let me know if I can further assist you and good luck.

My car is making a ticking noise

It's most likely your tappets! Check your engine oil level, when this is low the hydraulic tappets get noisier or they could be just worn!

Theres a slight tap/rattling noise on my subaru impreza 2 litre turbo it started when i changed the 2 head gaskets due to water in the oil.any help would be great

does it sound from the top of the engine like teppets or the bootom of engine ? sometimes after you have a job like that done it takes sometimr for the tappets to fill up with oil .Have you ran it and for how long if you havent ran it for atleast 5 mile try running it in to fill the tappets up . please tex me if you need more help.

those have a non adjustable lash adjuster that can be very pesky to keep pumped up . I have had to replace oil pumps and even the lash adjusters themselves. I have got them pumped up before by simply installing a very watery graphite additive to the oil("lifter quiet" I believe the product was called) and running the motor under load to the tune of about 4000 rpm for 10 or more miles....good luck

Datsun stanza 1980 tappets (lifters)

This car has hydraulic lifters( tappets} therefore should not adjustment, you probably have a bad or weak lifter. But, in any case you have to remove the valve covers to make the adjustment. You will see the adjustable bolt on the rocker arm. rotate the engine until the valve is all the way to the top, [no tension on the valve spring] then place a feeler Gage in between the rocker arm and the valve stem, adjust the rocker arm until the feeler Gage is snug but not tight. Do this with each valve. Check the book for the correct Gage to use but I think it is a .018.
