Question about 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee

The 'window channels' on all four doors are rusting thru. They are the metal pieces on the exterior of the doors. Where can I find replacements and what are they reall called?? I have an 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee

If you are a panel beater or good welder it will be an easy fix. Cut out the rust and replace it with a piece of panel metal ( from an old door -any old car door)

No one can answer this question online. stop by a shop, have them look at it and tell you what needs to be done. other than that I would say replace it. but could just need some adjustments.

How to install a rear window regulator on a 2000 Oldsmobile Intrigue


How do you remove door panels and replace window regulator on an Intrigue? Answer : For a 2002 Intrigue – Front Passenger I didn’t disconnect battery. You use window switch later to align window tabs to regulator frame – with ignition off power locks work, nothing is exposed.
1. Remove visible screw under armrest, pop out finger inset oval panel, remove exposed 2nd screw. 2. Pop off door handle trim – lock button assembly slide thru its hole in door panel. 3. Pop off window switch trim/holder – slide thru its hole in door panel. 4. Remove 2 slot screws under bottom of door.
5. I used a smooth metal letter opener (or old fork) to pry panel from door at each point plastic fasteners insert into metal. Start prying a little, see three on bottom perimeter two inches from edge. Three on door open edge and three on door hinge edge. Slow and easy = whole panel will pop off. A metal compression spring fastener connects at top door hinge edge trim – pry out. Be sure door lock and window switch remain inside. Clean all surfaces of door panel and lay on back seat.
6. With panel off you see clear plastic moisture sheet stuck to door with black rubbery paste - peel it from door for reattachment. You now see mechanism and fastener points. Lay out replacement window regulator and motor on mat by door to help you recognize fastening points, etc.
7. Carefully pull glass all way up and hold in place with two pieces duck tape two feet long with ¼# removal tabovers. Put a foot on outside glass and loop over door frame a foot to inside glass – with room to later redo when you twice lower and raise a foot to access bolts removing/attaching it to regulator bar.
8. Remove 3 bolts holding motor to door. 9. Remove upper 2 bolts and lower 2 bolts holding regulator frame to door.
10. Lower window to expose thru panel cutout area two bolts holding glass tabs to regulator, retape securely. Remove bolts, raise window, retape securely by looping over door frame.
11. Window regulator and motor assembly comes out as unit. Unplug window switch tab to release from motor. BEFORE reassembly clean the inside of the door, put in a little Borax for bugs, etc.
12. Reassemble by starting three motor bolts, fitting regulator assembly in door cavity. Replug window switch, motor can be placed in thru oval slots, leave all bolts loose. Replace two upper and two lower regulator bracket bolts, leave loose.
13. Turn on ignition, use window switch to lower window glass regulator tab bracket until accessible thru panel cutout. Turn off ignition, manually lower glass until tabs align with regulator bracket bolt holes and tighten these bolts. Take tape off, turn on ignition, raise window to top.
14. Tighten three motor bolts and four regulator bracket bolts, make sure alignment is OK. Remove your tape residue - clean goo from both glass sides with Goof Off. THEN raise and lower several times to assure all fits and works like new.
15. Reinstall clear plastic sheet, aligning any fastener holes and rubbing down perimeter with a cloth .
16. Align door panel, assure door lock and window switch are pulled thru. Visually align each tab on door opening side and pop them in one at a time. Continue on bottom – make sure you see them align or they will break. Finish on door hinge side and with metal fastener at top. IF you break a fastener, take one from small bag you bought from Pep boys - otherwise take bag back for refund…
17. Reinstall 2 armrest screws and 2 bottom panel screws, then pop in door lock, trim piece and window switch.
Clean the window inside and out with glass cleaner/polish/raineze so it will slide easily and your done. You can’t do anything about the motors going out. You can avoid regulator tab breaks by making sure the window is raised BEFORE closing those big doors – down is the weak moment!! I work slow and clean as I go, the job took two hours. I highly recommend partsgeek.com – saved a bundle over dealer and they shipped everything in several days – as ordered!

  1. Remove the front door trim panel. For additional information, refer to Section 501-05 .
  1. Position the watershield aside.
  1. NOTE: The tie strap does not need to be reinstalled.
    If equipped, remove the tie strap from the anti-theft guard.
  1. Remove the screws and position the anti-theft guard aside.
  1. Release the clip and disconnect the exterior door handle actuating rod.

svw~us~en~file=ani_caut.gif~gen~ref.gif WARNING: IF THE REGULATOR COUNTERBALANCE SPRING MUST BE REMOVED OR REPLACED FOR ANY REASON, MAKE SURE THAT THE REGULATOR ARMS ARE IN A FIXED POSITION PRIOR TO REMOVAL TO PREVENT POSSIBLE INJURY DURING C-SPRING UNWIND.
  1. Remove front door trim panel (23942) and front door inside panel sound insulator (20394). Refer to Section 01-05 .
  1. Remove inside door belt weatherstrip.
  1. Remove front door window glass (21410) as described in this section.
  1. Remove two nut and washer assemblies attaching the window regulator equalizer arm bracket (23230).
  1. Remove four rivets retaining the front door window regulator base plate to door inner panel.
  1. Remove front door window regulator (23200) and front door window channel bracket (23288) from vehicle.
  1. Working on a bench, carefully bend tab flat to remove front door window regulator arm slides from front door window channel bracket.
  1. NOTE: Use care not to break tab; if tab is cracked or broken, replace front door window channel bracket. Make sure rubber bumper is installed properly on new front door window channel bracket, if replacement is made.

    Install new front door window regulator arm plastic guides into front door window channel bracket and bend tab back to 90 degrees.

Installation
NOTE: The front door window channel bracket and window regulator electric drive (23394) are installed into the vehicle as one assembly. The front door window channel bracket may be disassembled from the window regulator electric drive as described in Door Glass and Regulator, Power Windows .

  1. Install window regulator electric drive with preassembled front door window channel bracket into vehicle. Set the regulator base plate to door inner panel using base plate locator tab as a guide.
  1. NOTE: Two 1/4-20 x 1 inch bolts and two 1/4-20 nut and washer assemblies may be used as alternates for glass retention. However, torque must not exceed 4-7 Nm (35-44 lb-in). Equivalent metric retainers may be used.

    Install four rivets to retain front door window regulator to door inner panel.
  1. Install window regulator equalizer arm bracket.
  1. Lower front door window regulator arms to access holes in door inner panel. Install front door window glass as outlined.
  1. Install inside door belt weatherstrip.
  1. Adjust front door window glass to make sure it is properly aligned with glass run. Check window for smooth operation.
  1. Install front door trim panel and front door inside panel sound insulator. Refer to Section 01-05 .

  1. Remove front door trim panel and front door trim shield . Refer to Section 01-05B .
  1. Remove inside door belt weatherstrip and glass stabilizer.
  1. Remove front door window glass as described in this section.
  1. Remove two nut and washer assemblies attaching the equalizer bracket.
  1. Remove three rivets (manual) or four rivets (power) attaching the regulator base plate to front door trim panel finish panel (23712) .
  1. Remove window regulator electric drive and front door window channel bracket from vehicle.
  1. Working on a bench, carefully bend tab flat to remove arm slides from front door window channel bracket .
  1. Install new window regulator electric drive arm plastic guides into front door window channel bracket and bend tab back to 90 degrees. Use care not to break tab; if tab is cracked or broken, replace front door window channel bracket . Make sure rubber bumper is installed properly on new front door window channel bracket , if replacement is made.

Installation

  1. Install front door trim panel finish panel with preassembled glass bracket into vehicle. Set the regulator base plate to window regulator electric drive using base plate locator tab as a guide.
  1. Install three (manual) or four (power) rivets (385189-S100) to attach regulator to front door trim panel finish panel . Two 1/4-20 x 1-inch bolts and two 1/4-20 nut and washer assemblies may be used as alternates for glass retention. However, torque must not exceed 4-7 Nm (3-5 ft-lb). Equivalent metric retainers may be used.
  1. Install equalizer bracket.
  1. Install inside door belt weatherstrip and glass stabilizer.
  1. Lower regulator arms to access holes in front door trim panel finish panel . Install front door window glass as outlined.
  1. Adjust glass to ensure proper alignment with glass run. Cycle glass for smooth operation.
  1. Install front door trim panel and front door trim shield . Refer to Section 01-05B .

its not impossible. you can do it. from my experience things get pretty tight when it comes to window tracks. you can't lose by trying though. good luck

Exterior rear door handle on Honda Accord 2001


To Remove Door Panel on 2001 Honda Accord:

A: To remove the plastic piece with the door lock button and door handle connected to it:

1- Remove the screw in the middle located behind a plastic cover button
2- Push (slide) the whole assembly Forward (toward front of car)
Besides the screw, it is held in place by 3 hooks on the backside that hook into holes in the metal door frame
3- Now unhook handle from small metal bar going through door by pushing (toward door) plastic clip (blue?) off of the bar, then the bar will come out of the clip hole, thus releasing the handle.
4- Depress little grey button /bar (purple painted on it)on elec. connector to seperate connector, thus releasing door lock switch

Now the whole assembly (metal handle, door lock switch, and plastic piece) will come off door panel

B: The door is held on by 2-screws, 7-plastic snaps/plugs, and 1-plastic plug.

The screws are located: bottom of hand hold and the other behind the handle, both covered by little covers that have to be pryed off to access the screws.(hint: the screw with the built in spacer goes behind the handle when you are trying to reinstall)
The 7-plastic snaps: 3 across bottom and 2 on each side. Not visible, they are mounted to the inside of the panel.
The 1-plastic plug is visible at the upper front of the panel and is the same color as the surrounding trim


C: Take off the big plastic triangle piece above the door panel and behind the mirror. Pull/pry off. It has 2 snaps holding it on. one near bottom and one near the front.

D: Light lens prys off from bottom. Unscrew (1/4 turn) the light assembly with bulb still intact from backside of panel

E: Remove the Hand-Hold/window switch assembly:
