1986 Mustang LX not turning over, tried to jump, but lights just dim and
engine makes a clicking-buzzing sound. Replaced battery, starter and
alternatior 2 yrs ago.

If you have info on what I should replace, again, please respond.

In some cases things can go bad again just after having replaced them. I think
your battery has had enough. A friend of mine just replaced a 2 year old Die
Hard in his 90 LX. Then also go get your alternator checked out to make sure
it's putting out what it is supposed to.

I've got a simpler solution. On my '88 2.3Lx Hatch I have about 1
foot of empy space in front of the motor, leaving lots of water coming
up into the engine compartment. What happens is the corrotion of the
battery terminals, clamps and cables prevents a full current to pass
through the cable (back or fourth) The buzz sound you hear is the
starter relay. What happens is the terminals first corrod, then the
clamps and eventally leading into the first 1/2" to 1" of the cable.
Goto your local store and buy new clamps, clean the old terminals and
cut off the old clamps (about 1 1/2" up the cable) strip and put the
new clamps on (put vasiline on the terminal first). Get a boost and
it should work. I have to do this at least 4 times a year and I
know how frustrating the first time always is (I was at the drive-in
the first time). Send me an email with your results.

Good Luck,

Chris

A few years back, my previous Mustang refused to take a jump, and I thought it
was something serious. Had the car towed to the shop, only to buy a $100.00
battery. Yes, sometimes the battery is SO dead, that even a jump won't work.

If that's the problem, then you got off easy. Did you save money on the new
battery two years ago by buying a...well, budget replacement?

(That reminds me... Cold weather's coming, and I'm probably due for a new one
myself. Mustangs - especially 5.0s - always seem to draw a fair amount of
current normally, but getting 8 cylinders moving on a frozen winter morning can
be a real chore for the battery. If you're marginal now, don't wait!)

That's the other fix I forgot! Always carry a good size monkey wrench in the
car, so you can pop the hood and BANG on those corroded terminals. By breaking
up the shit that's formed there, you might be able to draw enough current to
start the car.

Also check the end of the battery cable which connects to the solenoid
for corrosion.
