2002 F-150 Power window problem

By Beresford - usenet poster

" "
I have a 2002 F-150 with power windows and the drivers side window will not
go up or down. Each time I push the button to roll down the window I hear a
click noise around the fuse box in the passenger compartment. I looked at my
manual for the schmatic of the fuses and none of the relays according to the
schmatic deals with the window...I'm confused. To add..the window just stopped
working...can't figuire out why

Same Problem

-   I have a 2002 Taurus...same exact problem. I hear the clicking noise, but it doesn't work 90% of the time. Sometimes, when I push on the fuse panel with my foot really hard, I can get it to go down. This all started a few months ago with my driver side front window, and now my driver side rear window just stopped working too!-   erincr

I found the fuse for all these problems after paying Ford $90 to change out a fuse. While bummed, I have now done it 5 times since so I guess it was worth it. Fuse box located in front of driver below steering wheel; 2nd column of fuses; 3rd one down

The click is most likely coming from the thermal circuit breaker for
the window circuit, it is in the fuse block. If you push the window
switch and it clicks and trips immediately there's either a wiring
short, bad switch that shorts/grounds when you push it, or a grounded
motor.

If the window motor or the window regulator mechanism are stuck,
there will be a short delay before the breaker trips (two to five
seconds), and the lights will dim notably from the locked-rotor
current draw during the delay.

2000 F-150. Drives side window would go down easy, but had to really push the button hard to get it to go up and eventually wouldn't go up at all. I removed the panel on the door with all the power buttons, unplugged power locks, mirrors, and window connections.

I then pulled the power windows module out of the panel, took it apart. on the bottom side of the window buttons is a rocker arm and two thin plastic posts (one for the front, one for the back) for both drivers and passenger side. These posts push a copper contact on the lower part of the module when you push the button up or down. I noticed the driver's side "Up" post was worn down (from 9 years of use) by maybe a 1/16 of an inch. This was enough though that when it was pushing the copper contact on the lower part of the module it was not making contact and completing the circuit.

I am going to look into buying a new driver's side window button, but since this happened at 9PM I needed to get the window up so I didn't walk out in the morning to a truck full of mosquitos or rain or both. I took a tooth pick, cut it down to the right length, used some thin wire to secure it to the worn down post. The drivers side window is now going up and down with no issues.

THE PROBLEM IS NOT THE MOTOR ,RELAY, SWITCH,ECT. IT IS A SIMPLE ( ?) FIX. THERE ARE 3 PLASTIC LIKE THINGS IN THE GEAR HOUSING. SOME CALL THEM DRIVE PINS OTHERS CALL THEM TORQUE PINS. WITH AGE AND OR HOLDING THE SWITCH DOWN TO LONG AFTER THE WINDOW IS UP OR DOWN THEY SELF DISTRUCT ( FALL APART) . ONCE THE MOTOR IS OUT OF THE DOOR IT ONLY TAKES ABOUT 15 MINUTES TO FIX. YOU WILL NEED TO CLEAN, INSERT THREE NEW PINS ( THEY ARE ABOUT 7/16" BY 1/2") AND FILL WITH GREASE. THIS WORKS ON MOST FORD POWER WINDOWS I HAVE NOT HAD ANY OF THE NEWER WINDOWS APART YET.

If you are hearing a clicking sound from thr fuse box are, you do NOT have a fuse or relay problem. What is going on is the motor itself is wearing out. It is basically the brushes in the motor being worn. You can't just replace the brushes, you must replace the motor. This is sometimes a rather tuff job.
If your window is in the down poss. when it gives up there is one last hope to get it back up. It will take two people. One sits in the truck with his finger on thr window switch UP buttom and the door open. The other guy stands outside and SLAMS the door. In most cases this will jar the brushes into place long enough for the window to be closed. Don't make the mistake of thinking that this fixed your problem, because it may work for one or two more times and then never again.

In any car, The power windows user a relay and motor to move the window glass up and down. In my astra the front passenger and rear passenger window suddenly stopped working one after another. I took the car to the showroom and the mechanic said that the front power window assembly costs around $2000 and the rear window will assembly will cost around $1000. I said thanks to him and drove the car back home since $3000 is hell lot of money for a car repair in india that is too repair a car window!!!!. So I opened the Door pad my self and started doing R&D.
I found that the motor is not doing any noise if I press the switch. But Power is going to motor through a relay. I cut the wire between relay and the motor (1 pair wire) and direcly connected to the car battery. The motor started functioning. I took a deep breath. I found the same problem with the rear window. In both the cases the relay was not functioning. I searched for the realy but didn't get anywhere since it comes along with the window assembly.

I have designed my own relay switch using DTDP relay. I bough 2 realys for front door and 2 relays to the rear door. I have soldered the wired as required and fixed the relays connecting the input to the switch and out put to the motor. Now my both pwoer windows are working wintout any issues. Do you know how much I have spent to fix this problem? It is only 4$. (1$ per realy). So debig the issue your self and try to fix it before you take the car to the show room for repair, If you require the relay circuit for car power window, then please email me @ sunilshettyk@yahoo.com.

Try taking the door panel off & remove the speaker, tap on the motor while pushing the window button. This might only be a temporary fix, you might have replace the motor later on.

most of these problems are causes when a wire breakes between the door and the body. there is a rubber boot that covers the wires and supposed to prevent this but only works for a while. simmply pull the boot out on the boy side then remove the inner kick panel and check the wires, usaully its the ground wire.

I have a 1997 F150 & the driver's side window stopped working. You could hear a clicking sound at the fuse box when you push the button.
I remove the door panel & speaker, then I tapped on the motor while pushing the button, the motor started working like new.
A mechanic friend of mine told me that I would probably have to replace the motor later on, but for now I'm going leave it.

I have a similar problem on a 2000 F150, the driver side power window stopped working. I pulled the bezel off with the switches and there's a black connector block with about 10 wires into it that connects on the underside of the Power Window switch. If I apply pressure to it against the window switch it works again. I noticed one of the two locking tabs has broken off. I'm trying to find a new part, but the Ford dealership here in Phoenix, AZ parts says it's part of the harness and they want over a grand for it. I'm hoping to find a salvage part or some way to fasten it back together with some equal pressure,

My 2005 f-150 super crew has the same problem on the drivers side and I have already replaced the switch on the passenger side. Ford should be doing a recall because I here this all the time. It has to be a bad design with faulty parts.

I have a 1985 Ford Bronco. The overhead light would not go off. I finally took the bulbs out. Now the windows dont go up or down. What could be my problem. I am trying to check the fuses, but do not know which one it is. I do not have an owners manual so I am attempting to find out which fuse operates the windows via online.

Our drivers side window in now in the down position and will not roll back up.

Comment by clamjls, posted on Nov 10, 2008

Passenger window became intermittent first then over about a year finally stopped working in up position. Had ford dealer trouble shoot and said it needed new motor. I decided $400 was too much and I'd try repair myself. shortly after, the driver side became intermittent. Always failed in up position. Soon dirvers side was inop also. I Finally decided to get a new motor and attempt repair. I started with the passenger side. After removing the motor I tried the swtch and it worked. Replaced motor and it worked about 20 times then became intermittent again. What issues are at play and what other components are possible trouble/ failure items. I think the switches are all ok. Is it a motor heat isssue, a relay issue, or a motor grounding issue or should I disassemble the motor and clean and lube it. I'd hate to replace the motor and have the same problem. this appears to be a very common problem from the online posts I've seen.

i have a 2002 eddie bauer explorer. the drivers side window just stopped working one day. it is stuck up at least, but every other window works just fine, and so does everything else as far as buttons on that door??? i wasted $140 on a switch from the ford place, and it's not that, and i can't even exchange or refund it. i do NOT have the money for someone else to fix it, and know i could probably do it myself, IF only i knew how. someone PLEASE help me. i've already taken the whole door panel off, and can't seem to find n e thing with that. i located the fuse box on the inside underneath the steering wheel, but can't get to fuses on top. i'm pretty sure the box comes off somehow, and i think that's what i need help with.....don't wanna break n e thing, so if someone could let me know what you think, i'd be SOOOO appreciative!! thank you :) (by the way, my inspection is expired due to the fact the drivers side window doesn't work, need help ASAP!!)

Comment by Guest, posted on Jul 14, 2008

It sounds like I just experienced the same problem with a Ford F150 power window. The window doesn't go up or down and I hear a clicking when I push the button. My owner's manual says there is a relay (#4) in the passenger compartment fuse panel and a circuit braker in the engine compartment power distribution box (fuse location 601). There were no previous problems. I'll try to reset the circuit breaker tomorrow and see if that helps.

My 1995 Ford Windstar drivers side window used to intermitently go up and down, now the motor will not operate at all (stopped in the up position). My passenger side rear vent window stopped operating just yesterday. I've switched places with a togel switch from another window, where I know the swith is working, but the front window motor still won't function. I don't hear any clicking in the fuse box at all. What are the possible problems?

The driver's side window on my '02 Mustang Gt was working fine and never gave a moments notice that something was wrong. I rolled down the window all the way and now it will not roll up although the passenger's side window still works great. There is a clicking noise coming from the fuse box, but all of the fuses appear to be fine. Plus, You can't just take off the door trim and raise the window back up so it's a real pain.
