Question about 1997 Dodge Caravan

1 Answer

I have a 1997 dodge caravan. The wipers just stopped working. The motor is still going for the wipers, and if you pull the wipers it starts to go only once and then stalls out. What do I need to do. I am on a tight budget would like to be able to fix this myself.

You probably have a stripped gear for the wipers where the turning motor transfers the rotating arm into a back and forth movement. Hopefully you can find a replacement at your local parts store. If not, try this web site and look for wiper motor assembly http://www.car-part.com

the wiper arms are pressed on by the nut securing them on the stud. Make sure they are snug. If so the studs are stripped meaning a new wiper transmission is needed

I replaced the wiper motor on my 1997 dodge caravan and cant get the timing of the wiper arms right..... info on how to do this??

pull the wiper arms off. turn the wipers on intermittent so they work once. then put the wiper arms back on in the down position and tighten bolts on wiper arm. They should then be timed correctly. Please rate my post.

The van is now about 13-14 years old, chances are that the switch has worn to a point that the finite metal particles are shorting it out causing it to be on all the time. Re and clean the switch contacts, you should be good to go. Please let me know how you make out. Good luck..

The windshield wipers are stuck vertically and now

This sounds like the wiper motor has failed. You can pick one up at the local parts store. If not mechnically savvy, I would recommend taking to shop for working in tight areas that these can be. But, otherwise, the motor is on the fire wall, unplug, remove screws(4), exchange with new, and reassemble as removed. I hope this helps.

1997 Dodge Caravan

you could either have a welded contact at the wiper relay or the shorted wiper switch.

after you unplug the harness, check the relay, remove again the harness and check the relay for a welded contacts. see if the contacts are close even without power. if they are, replace the wiper relay.

if they are not close, then check the wiper switch. that could be the problem.

tnx 4 using fixya,
