The fuel pump should not run after the ignition is turned off. Sounds like you have a stuck fuel pump relay.

Hiya, can you throw some light on the following problem. I am getting a noise from under the bonnet, sound like a pump once the engine is swithed off. The same issue will happen when the engine is first...

Perhaps an electric fan? It may also be the fan spinning after the engine is stopped on its clutch mechanism. If the ket is runed to the "on position", the electric fuel pump can run until it reaches operating pressure is the line and its been shut off by a working "shut off" switch. (this is normal operation as long as it does shut off and there is no leak or loss in line pressure) More information on year, make and model may help but its difficult to answer what "that" noise is without hearing it. Again, depending on the car, vacuum operated headlamp doors, and a LOT of other things are perfectly normal noises. Good luck

I have an 89 Olds 98 Regency. The fuel pump comes on with the key then shuts off less than a second later. Does the fuel pump need to be replaced or is there a relay module that could possibly be the...

The fuel pump will come on then, shut off when the key is placed in the ON position, this is normal. What is not normal, is when the key is turned to start the engine, and the fuel pump does not run when the engine is running at the same time. The initial power up you hear is a prime function that all vehicles have.

I have no power to the fuel pump on my 1996 TBird. Where is the fuse for the fuel pump located.

Do this test first. With the drivers door opened in a nice quite area turn the ignition key to the ON position without starting the engine. You should hear the fuel pump operating for 5 seconds which is priming fuel to the engine. If not heard the engines oil pressure sensor is at fault. The third wire from this sensor links to the fuel pump to prime. When the engine reaches normal operation oil pressure range the computer shuts off that circuit and turns on the fuel pump relay for the pump to run. That relay stays on until you shut the engine off

Parked the van and went out to start it and it just cranked and stoped just for a sec. then would not start I useuly hear the fuel pump running but I can not here it now I have check the fuse box and found...

The fuel pump works off the engines oil pressure switch upon first starting the engine. That switch makes the fuel pump prime for the 5 seconds as well
When the engine reaches the normal oil pressure the computer shuts that circuit off and turns the fuel pu,p relay circuit on to have the fuel pump to run until you shut off the engine

Camry just quit running. I can't hear fuel pump,

The engines oil pressure switch has a third wire which is connected to the fuel pump. The oil pressure gauge may work although the third wire to the pump may be at fault causing your delimma
Once the engines oil pressure reached the normal operating range the computer shuts down the oil switches third wire to the pump and the relay takes over until you shut the emgine off

without starting the engine position the key to the on position.
you can hear the fuel pump operationing for 4 to 6 seconds upon having the key on.
if not heard running check the fuel pump fuse, the fuel pump relay, and the engines oil pressure switch.
they all work the pump you see
the engine oil pressure switch runs the pump untill the engine reaches normal pressure
once the pressure is reached to the normal range the computer shuts that circuit off and turns the fuel pump relay on

Turn the key to the ON position without starting the engine. You should hear the fuel pump running for 5 seconds if working. This primes the gas to the injectors when doing this. If not heard running check the oil pressure switch for the 12 volts needed to run the fuel pump starts there on that harness. When the engine starts and the oil pressure reaches the normal pressure the computer shuts off that circuit and turns on the fuel pump relay to run the pump. The relay stays on till you shut the engine off

No power to fuel pump on a 94 cherokee what could be the problem? all relays are new.

the oil pressure switch conjoins to the fuel pump feed upon starting the engine. once the engine gets to normal oil pressure the computer will shut the feed off from the oil switch and turns the relay on to take over till you shut the engine off. If the fuel pump is good try this test. Turn the key to the on position & do not start the engine. You will hear the fuel pump running if the oil switch is good

Fuel shut off switch , where is it

Ford had a shut off switch only. It is a saftey design Fors had for decades and no other Car maker has this option as of yet
Yours will have a fuel pump fuse, a relay to the pump. an oil sensor that is runs the fuel pump only upon starting up the engine and shuts off upon when the engine reaches normal oil pressure. When the sensor shuts off the fuel pump relay takes over until the engine is shut off. When you turn the key to the on position you will hear the fuel pump working inside the fuel tank. No need to turn the key to the start position only to the on position. If the pump is not working you have either a bad fuel pump or a oil pressure sensor. If you do hear it pumping for 5 seconds the engine should fire and die out telling you the relay or pump is bad
