Tightening is not usually the issue. If they are loose, it's probably because the rubber has separated and you will need new mounts. They are not too difficult to replace, but you do need to know your way around a wrench, and you will need a floor jack to hold the engine up while changing them. First jack the engine a bit on a hard point (you can jack on the oil pan if you put a block of wood on your jack) to see what, if any, of your mounts has broken.
I don't have the manual for your car, but there is usually one mount right in front of the engine between the serpentine belt and attaching to the right fender well. Another one is usually going from the lower part of the engine to the radiator support. There may or may not be a third mount on the engine, but there will probably be one on the tranny somewhere too. have I totally confused you? Let me know if you have questions.

How to change motor mounts on 1998 ford escort 4 door sedan

The exact location varies depending on model, engine size, power and suchlike.

Most models have three mountings and there are no lower ones, though there could be a steady bar or torque reaction mount attached to the bottom of the transmission.

The power unit tends to be mounted with one mount high up on the extreme right and two on the transmission end, one at the back and one at the front.

Video on replacing motor mounts on a 1999 ford escort

I have no video of the job just written instructuions.

  • Park the vehicle on level ground and shut off the engine. Raise the front end of the Escort off the ground using the floor jack. Lower the vehicle onto jack stands placed under the frame to support the car.
  • 2Place the jack under the oil pan and raise the lift plate to the bottom of the oil pan. Remove the engine mount bolt using the 1/2-inch socket wrench. The engine mount bolt is in the center of the mount fitting in clear view.
  • Slowly raise the engine using the jack until the weight of the engine is removed from the engine mount. Pull the engine mount from the fitting and place the new mount in the fitting.
  • 4Lower the engine slowly and insert the bolt into the mounting hole. Tighten the mount bolt to 67.9 foot-pounds using the torque wrench.
  • 5Remove the bolt from the other engine mount the same way as the first one. Pull the mount from the fitting and insert the new one. Replace the bolt to the center of the mount fitting. Lower the engine to the frame and tighten the mount bolt to 67.9 foot-pounds.
  • 6Remove the jack from under the Escort. Raise the car off the jack stands, remove the stands and lower the car to the ground

If you can locate the Parking brake cable under the chassis, there should be a clevis that tensions two cables together, at this point you should be able to adjust the cables toward each other to tighten connections.
