Question about 2001 Mercury Sable

My 01 sable starts and dies and thats all it does due 2 injector pulse gets weak but if i unplug all of them it has good pulse but if i even plug any one of them it looses pulse after a few seconds

Check all injectors with a needle stethoscope. Unplug electrical connector of bad injectors, and check the signal with (injector check light). The light must pulse. If not might be a bad computer. If yes replace bad injectors with new one. Hope will help.

    im using a blue point pulse check light and it dont matter witch injector i try. thats good advice tho im just afraid to buy a 250$ computer and it not be the problem

    I would go to the Dealer for an Check and advice ONLY. It might cost $65 to $100 but is the only way to get a good answer. They have thousands of dollars diagnostic systems. Small dealers cannot afford. Please do not rate me. I am only advising you. Good luck.

Sounds like #2 is still missing. Misfires can be caused by an ignition problem, a fuel problem, or a mechanical problem where there is no compression in the cylinder.
Okay, you have changed the coil. Now try changing spark plugs and the spark plug wire-Swap #2 and #1 spark plugs and the plug wire too, and see if misfire follows now on #1. If it does, bad plug or bad plug wire. Of course you could just drop a new plug into #2 and see what happens. If no change, swap the plug wires and test again. If still misfiring, check the spark at end of plug wire-you need to see a blue snapping spark to know the ignition is working good on that #2.
If you have spark there, need to check if the injector is pulsing and spraying fuel into the cylinder. You might be able to feel the injector pulse if you hold a finger lightly on the injector while engine is running-should be a steady, rather rapid click feel to the injector. If not sure, have the injector circuit checked. You can buy an inexpensive "noid light" at auto parts stores, one that fits your injector circuit, plug it into #2 injector, and crank the car over or run the engine and watch the light-if working, the noid light will be blinking. This verifies the circuit is good. If the spark plug is wet with gas when pulled out, that would verify that injector is spraying fuel into the cylinder.
If still no help, have the compression checked in #2. Low compression from a valve problem or head gasket problem can cause misfires.

cod p0304 refers to cylinder 4- misfire detected==causes--engine mechanical fault--wiring---ignition/ fuel system--injector---ECT/MAF sensor--ecm. I would be looking at a faulty injector in no4 cylinder unless you have a burnt valve. Have a compression test done to eliminate mechanical failure.

You are on the right track by finding the injector pulse missing.
The computer grounds the injectors based on signals from the cam and crank sensors. You may have to use a scanner to check for trouble codes in the computer and watch the sensors work.
The problem could also be a relay or the key switch.

Check your voltage to the fuel injectors.Also check to see if the fuel injectors need cleaning.First, put your fuel pressure gauge on the shrader valve on the end of the right fuel rail. You should have 35-42 psi and it should hold up for a long time with the ignition turned off. The signal to the injectors is a pulse to ground on the green/blk wire of each injector. The black wire on the injector goes to 12v. Get a noid light at a parts store and see if your injectors are being pulsed during cranking. If not, first check both injector fuses with an ohmeter, they see a lot better than you do. If you have a pulse and fuel pressure and still no starting, you have contaminated gasoline. Engines that start on starting fluid have no gasoline/air mix in the intake due to no gas, or no injecting.Even a cheap $5 multi-meter will work for you.
Check for +12 volts at the black wire of each injector connector or check continunity between all of them and then for +12V.

Check for continunity between the green/black wire and at the ECM connector. Take the connector off the ECM to get at the pin. Also disconnect the neg battery cable before doing this one.

Are you getting spark to that cylinder, may be bad coil pack, is the injector getting a signal to fire, usually a test light will not work to test them, it pulses way to quick for test light to pick up, a noid light is what we use, it's specially designed for injector circuit testing. Also does it miss while driving or just at idle?? If only at idle even though your compression showed ok it can still be a valve going bad, put about a ounce or 2 of oil in the cylinder and check compression again, if you have a 20 or more psi increase you have either a valve or piston ring problem.

you should chek ur actual injector pulse to see if fuel is gettn injected into ur engine. one way to see if its a fuel problem is to try shootrin carb cleaner into ur throttle body or a vacuum hose directly on the intake manifold while cranking engine an even see if it try to start. if it pops over an trys to start then ur spark is obviously good enough,an ur not gettn injector pulse. all ur injectors should have 12volts and only the ground gets pulsed on and off to open an close injectors,while someone is crankin engine.thats wen voltaged needs checked. if it trys to start then i woul def check ur cam sensor which controls injectr pulse ,most likely located in ur distributor.also good idea to chek all ur fuses,and even try to see if there are any codes in ur computer system,which their probably are. very important wen diagnosing a no start condition. good luck coutybgg

Started ran for awhile then died an wont start


Start with the simple and replace your fuel filter, a dirty filter can cause your engine from starting. At worst, your fuel pump has failed and will need to be replaced. Before replacing the fuel pump, inspect all the fuses and wire leads from the fuel pump harness. Note: that the ground wire is separately grounded at the frame, so inspect that for any damage due to corrosion.

You need 3 things.
Compression
Good hot blue spark to all plugs.
Good gasoline and proper fuel pressure. 63-64 lbs.
If you have all 3 then move on to injector pulse to all injectors. I think each injector is on a seperate driver on that one. Check for pulse to all of them.

You may be weak on fuel pressure, even a couple of lbs low on a cold start will cause a no start. Double check cold start cranking fuel pressure. If under 63-62 lbs you have problems. One test is to give it a squirt of carb cleaner not starting fluid. If it starts then you have a fuel pressure problem.
Run the full fuel pressure test, here is the guide lines on testing.
Hard to start cold.
Check cold start fuel pressure.
Check engine running fuel pressure.
Check engine running on the road fuel pressure.
Then shut it off and watch for fast leak down.
Pinch off at rubber part or block off return line and check full pressure. Later V6 and V8 gm engines should have 60-66 fuel pressure.
* Cold start should be 64-65 lbs of pressure. If you do not have full fuel pressure on a cold start the injectors will not squirt fuel.
* Engine running should be 60-66 lbs pressure depending on engine load.
* Full pressure with return pinched off should be 75-85 or more. and if it has a fast leak down after shut off you have a leak.

The 75-85 is only a check on the capable full pressure of fuel pump. If you can not find the rubber return line check full pressure by plugging return line or just or the true full pressure can be taken direct at the end fuel filter.
