Not sure your anti-theft system has activated. You have the Passlock II system, and jump will not deactivate. Suspect your battery is low or the terminals corroded. Recommend you check the charge on the battery and clean/tighten the terminals. If the battery is low, you may have an alternator issue. Let us know what happens.

My 1996 cadillac is doing the same thing, we changed alternator and battery and it still doesn't start, the mechanic says he needs to put a new harness of wires in the steering column. Is that right?

My charger stopped while I was driving and would not restart

Battery? Charging system? Fan belts to alternator? Will it jump start? If starts with jump but stalls when jumper cable removed charging system is not working. No AAA or equal? Might be time to sign up.

CAR WILL STALL AND SHUT OFF OCCASIONALLY BUT WILL RESTART

This may be due to a failing antitheft system. When the ignition cannot properly read the key's transponder, the system turns the fuel injectors off. (to prevent theft) This is a common problem on Gm vehicles. Normally a light that says SECURITY or ANTITHEFT will appear on the dash immediately after this happens. If you see that light. Go to this link for answers and "do it yourself" fixes.

Basically the same is the question here, only the

i would first disconnect the system and temporarily put ignition system back in to factory spec
then run the car as normal and see if problem disapers

if yes then replace the antitheft control box

if no then you have to dignose further check the cars ecu

Starts, runs 5 min. then shuts down everything, won't restart for couple minutes and with aid of jumper cables

does the truck have an anti-theft system? if so did u install anything new on the vehicle( stereo, remote starter etc...)if not then the module for the anti-theft my be toast. if u have installed anything new, double check where the wiring for the new component has been spliced, the anti-theft module needs at least a 5 volt signal in order 2 work. if this wire has been spliced then u will not have enough voltage to run the module properly.the module runs on a timer so if the truck stalls then u will have 2 wait about 5 mins for it 2 reset b4 u can restart the vehicle

check your battery termanals, make sure they are clean and tight. could be a bad battery or just need charging. also could be the altenator. try jump starting it first.

Anti theft indication

You have classic symptoms of a failing BCM (body control module), it is the brain off all of these systems, the dealer has the correct test equip. to address this issue in a timely manner, outside shops are lost on these kinks of modern automotive electronic control systems, they guess and cost you allot of money.
