Question about 1993 Dodge Shadow

Open Question

How do you change the fuel pump on a 1993 Dodge Shadow? Already changed the fuel filter, relay, and checked fuse panel. Did not see any gas going into injectors when trying to start. 2.2l I4 Engine. Do you have to drop the tank or can it be done from the back?

SOURCE: my 1993 dodge shadow will not start, it will turn

Does it sound like a screeching or grinding sound? If so - it could be the starter is going out - there is a part called the bendix spring that is probably not engaging completely and it will cause the teeth of the starter to not fully engage the flywheel - which makes an awful sound.

Hope this helps and good luck!

SOURCE: 93 dodge stealth sohc ran fine one day then wouldnt start

first you must determine if it has fire, and fuel pressure if so then injector pulse. Any OBD codes???? you really need a scanner to go any further without guessing.

I changed the fuel pump in my 1993 dodge shadow and i still have a no start and im still not getting gas up to the carb

Get the Chilton book (or equivalent) and check the schematic. Find the fuel pump relay, and check for a collision safety switch which may need re-setting. I like my test light that has an alligator clip on it. Don't pierce wires if you can avoid it, just slip the probe into a connector along the wire. Never pierce wires near the end, or a component, you may have to splice that wire if it corrodes later.

Hi , i have a 02 yukon and was driving it and the motor shut down. i can start it right away, but when i press on the gas it shuts off. is this a fuel pump problem or a relay problem?

I WOULD CHECK FUEL PUMP RELAY IF FUEL PUMP KICKS ON AND OFF.BUT IF FUEL FILTER HAS NOT BEEN CHANGED.CHANGE THE FUEL FILTER THE FUSE/RELAY IF ALL IS GOOD I WOULD SCAN VECHICLE FIRST BEFORE BUYING FUEL PUMP.

Is the fuel filter hard to change? I was doing some searching and its apparently underneath the car where the gas tank is. Is that true?

Yes it is under the car, usually mounted in a bracket. There are 2 hoses going to it with clamps holding the hoses on the filter. Not too tough to change. Make sure you relieve the fuel pressure, by removing the fuel pump fuse while the engine is running.

The fuel filter may be dirty and not permitting the proper fuel flow, or the Fuel pump may have gone bad. If you turn the ignition on with the window open or your standing out side you should hear the fuel pump pressurize the fuel line for 3 seconds. If you think you didn't hear it you can try  again. If you do not hear it check the fuses to the ECM and Fuel pump. The fuel pump relay is in the glove box behind a panel that say relays. there are three of them, switch the relays around to make sure the relay did not go bad and i think the middle relay is the one for the fuel pump. The last thing would be to check is the fuel pressure, there should be 60 to 65 PSI when the system is pressurized and you can check that at the shredder valve on the fuel line towards the rear of the engine on the drivers side.
Ok lets recap, Check and listen for the fuel pump, if you can not hear it check the fuses and relays. oh and almost forgot there is a wire harness from the frame to the gas tank on the drivers side that may also be corroded, check for loose connection.
If you can hear the fuel pump, change the fuel filter and check the fuel pressure at the shredder valve, your going to have to rent a fuel pressure gauge to connect to the shredder valve. IF you want to save some money, just change the filter and if that did not help then check the fuel pressure.
Good luck and keep me posted

93 dodge shadow driving along 45-50 mpg, starts to sputter, fuel

did they change the fuel filter at the same time?a bad filter will cause the fuel pump to overwork and can cause premature failure.you may also have a fuel pump relay going bad,it is probably located in a fuse/relay box under the hood.
