Question about 2003 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

1 Answer

When I start the car and start to drive I hear a loud whining noise from under the hood. (Really annoying) The problem seems worse when the steering wheel is turned. I suspect the power steering pump but fear it could be trany problems. I am getting pretty dramatic oil pressure fluctuations (oil sending unit?) but fluids are good, no warning lights, no loss of power and no apparent steering issues. 125k miles, runs great, well maintained but I am stumped on this. any help appreciated. thanks

Might be a louse belt, air in the steering rocker arm system, a bad CW joint, or anything else. Try to locate the source of the noise first.

Whinning noise heard from inside car on idle and acceleration

Might be a bearing in one of the accessories, such as the alternator or power steering pump. Try to isolate to a specific location, especially as it gets worse.

What is making this 08 caliber 2.0L sxt cvt have a High pitched whining sound at idle and driving?

Possible bearing in one of the drive pulleys. I have changed numerous alternators for this noise. Take the belt off and start the car. If the noise goes away you know it will be pulley related and not transmission related. If noise goes away, spin all pulleys by hand to determine the defective/noisy one

Whining humming noise under hood

If the engine is not reaching optimum operating temperature it will indeed give you a "check engine light",the code will lean you in that direction as well. The noise your hearing more than likely is coming from the "clutch fan",they are very common on the TrailBlazers to make noise and fail. The oil light... you certainly need to have the oil pressure checked with a mechanical gage.

Loud whine coming from engine

The whining sound that you here could be coming from a number of places. It may be a coincidence but I think you may be talking about the transmission's pump. You may want to buy a stethoscope. This tool, if properly and carefully used, will help pin point a mechanical noise. Other possibilities are the power steering pump, tensioner and idler bearing, A/C compressor or A/C clutch, or Alternator. I hope this helps, write back if you have any other questions, good luck.

Power steering reservour may have plugged screen. Fluid flows better when warmer weather thus, no noise of starving power steering. Have a look at this link. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_QjBLYltLYY

the gears are not moving when the car is in park, therefore, no noise from the trans.. it is coming from somewhere else. quite possibly, it's the starter motor is continuing to spin. have someone listen under the hood while starting. if it is the starter, the noise will be more prominent when listening from under the hood. how long does the noise last?

Very loud "rubbing " sound when driving only

you did damage to the wheel bearing i bet it sounds like a airplane sound. also if you steering wheel is off 7"then have front end aligned because this will destroy the tires and they will make noise.
