I have a 2000 Chevy Blazer and I can get the Rear Hatch to open but the tailgate won't come down?

Hi, check your lift supports or the hinges. If they're dented or bent, they might let the hatch open but not come back down.

Here's a link with a picture of the locations of the lift support and hinges. I hope this helps.

How to take back hach off

Open the hatch, prop the hatch up, remove the gas struts, get a couple of people to hold the hatch, and unbolt the hinges. I strongly suggest marking the hinge positions with pencil or crayon to make aligning the hatch on re-installation easier.

Rear glass hatch hinge

clean the window and hinge then wipe with alcohol or gas to remove residue from hands.
mix up a 2 part epoxy and apply to hinge and a little on window.
put hinge in place then tape to keep it from moving.
It should be ready in 24 hours. I always wait this long because it
is so hard to clean and start over.
This worked on my bosses 71 Ferrari with the V12. Extremely rare.

Does the hatch open up electrically??? If not, then just take off the hinge bolts and struts, hold the new door in place, re install the bolts ( without tightening them completely) and then shut the door and see where it has to be adjusted correctly to close easily. Then you can tighten the bolts tightly and re install the struts. You will need at least 3 people to help.

How to replace rear hatch hinges

I don't think the hinges themselves are replaceable, you may find the hinge welded to the frame.. You can however replace the hinge pins. The pins are pressed in, and driven out with a hinge punch. Make sure you have a helper though, the hatch is very heavy.

Have 2001 Ford Windstar. Had back hatch open and backing down drive way. Corner of hatch hit edge of the house. The hatch was pushed up & in aprox. 2" so it now hangs at a slight angle and won't close. ...

makes me wonder if it is just the hinge that is bent and maybe the body where it attaches to the van. At the same time I doubt some thing easy will do away with the $2k expense (sorry). Maybe an entire back hatch with hinges from salvage yard (make sure to get same color).
