Question about 2002 Hyundai Santa Fe

1 Answer

Part 2 of my first question. TO: JWVPOOL3: I don't think I explained whats really going on with my ABS. My ABS light NEVER went on at all. The first time it happened the brake pedal kept pulsating. They only way I was able to stop my vehicle was to pump the brake, which is the opposite of what your suppose to do. Which is to apply steady, constant pressure on the brake pedal until the vehicle has stopped. If I applied constant pressure my truck kept going, and at one point I was trying to make a U-turn and actually hit a stop sign because my truck wouldnt stop when I needed it to stop. my mechanic told me that he could sotter the ring in place instead of spending money to replace it, ----However, I was wondering if its possible to disconnect or just remove the ABS. What are the options to fixing an ABS when the ring breaks? And I have already fixed the two front tires and fortunately the two back tires have not given me any problems...yet. Sincerely, Denise

The ABS "thinks" that a wheel is locking up because its getting a bad wheel speed signal. Fix it correctly, or pay someone that know what they are doing. your life and the life of others is on the line.

You probably have a trouble code stored in the engine computer for a faulty transmission selector switch. The engine computer thinks the trans is in 3rd gear and not park. Or it really could be stuck in third gear.

Abs, check engine light. Sounds and feels like abs is trying to function while driving. My wife can better explain all the ills with it since she drives it everyday

  • Hello and thank you for the opportunity to assist you. The ABS is there to help your brakes "pump" automatically vrs. locking up. The light on means somewhere in the system a fault has been detected (Anti-Lock Braking system). With the light on this could be a few things to which the code should be read. When the code is read it give a point for me to proper diagnose. This can be done at Auto Zone or any major parts store for free. The check engine light can be read at the same time.

  • I have seen this happen though to the point the wheel would lock up (which ABS should be preventing) often time a reprogramming of the ABS module or replacing is the way to remedy this.
  • The caliper could be sticking as well.
  • Brake booster could be a factor in this as well.
  • The sensor itself could be bad or the wiring as well. A signal could be going to the pump to turn on thinking pressure is being applies when it is not.

  • There are a few things that this could be. I really have to have the code first of I would just be guessing and I don't like to guess. Right now I am leaning towards one of the sensors. So you can pull the front wheels and look at the back of the HUB and see the wiring harness and the sensor and see if one is snapped or the wiring harness is ripped or the wires broke or the insulation negated. This is about all the diagnosing you can do with no codes.

  • As my add state, I offer free followup questions. Many folks don't know that a code has to be retried in order to really be assisted. So if you go get the codes read, come back here and tell me what they are and I can further assist you. Like I stated the codes can be read for free at your local major parts store. You can also do some visual looking as I stated as well.

  • Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa.

Regards,Tony

Abs light on dash, brake lite on dash, speedometer not working, jumping in and out of overdrive.

You have multiple problems. Make sure the brake fluid is at the proper level. Most of the time when I see this and the fluid is correct with no other mechanical issues it turns out there is a short due to an after market alarm that was installed incorrectly. Make sure you don't have a caliper sticking on one of the wheels which will cause the ABS and Brake Lights to come on. You'll also want to make sure your emergency brake isn't stuck. The ABS module malfunctioning would explain the ABS light and the Brake Light but not the speedometer issue. I have given you a lot of things to check because you need to be sure those are all working correctly. Because you added the Speedometer issue this is most likely going to be a short somewhere in the circuit or a possible issue with the ECM. It is possible a faulty ABS module could cause this, before you go get a new one though, try locating one in a local Junk yard and switch it out. If the lights go out you know that is the problem and you can go get a new one, I don't recommend using junk yard ABS parts for anything other than testing. With those lights on you can go to Auto Zone or Advance auto and ask them to connect the code reader to the vehicle and get a better idea of where you need to look.

Something has tripped off your ABS computer. You really have to go to a garage or dealer to find out what went wrong.

Abs and brake light has come on in a 2000 ranger 6 cyl

Had a similar issue on an old Mazda pickup that was really a Ford. I found that the issue was with an ABS sensor mounted near the rear axle. When I opened the cover, I found a lot of corrosion. I scraped out what I could and sprayed it down liberally with some electrical contact cleaner. I did not have any ABS function to my brakes althought they still worked. 2 or 3 days after my cleaning efforts, the ABS and brake light went out and the ABS function returned to my brakes! I think a junk yard wanted a couple hundred bucks for that part. Check and see if you have the actual abs function (ie brake pedal pulsing during a skidding hard braking action). This may very well be your isse and it may be a very cheap fix!

My 2002 Kia Sedona is acting up

you could have a problem with the alternator, you will need a multimeter to test the battery then the battery with the engine running. HID lights ABS will not work at below 10 volts. the alternator may be charging but not at its full power, battery should be 12.05 volts fully charged and with alternator should make the voltage at the battery with engine running, should be at 14 volts. I don't think the radio would be the problem unless it has been wired wrong but that should not be the case if used original wiring. but if the alternator and battery is good then i would check the radio, it could be sorting out somewhere if not fitted correctly or has a fault.
