Car gets hot, need to get air bubbles out. How do I do that?

In the front center of the top of the engine there should be a small bleeder screw/fitting. It is just like a bleeder screw on a brake caliper. It will be on the coolant outlet tube going under the intake manifold. Loosen it after the car has been sitting for a while. Then run the engine and keep an eye on the bleeder screw. At first, air will shoot out of the fitting. Tighten it when there is only coolant coming out. Make sure you tighten it completely when you finish.

My grand vitara runs hot. It has water antifreeze new oil.....


Sounds like you have a air bubble in the cooling system. Go buy a funnel that you can screw onto the radiator, you should be able to buy it at an auto part store. Then jack the front end of your car up to the point where the funnel is the highest point in the cooling system. Fill the funnel with anitfreeze. Start your car and let it idle awhile. After your car reaches operating temperature, start revving up your car to try and get the air bubble out. A good way to tell that the air bubble is gone is to turn your heat on the hottest setting and use a thermometer to measure the temp of the air. Normal temp that comes from the vent should be around 140 -150 F at idle.

Air bubbles in the coolant system causing the car to run hot


If you are seeing air bubbles, then the cooling system still has air pockets in it. Loosen the overflow cap and leave it that way for a few days while you drive.Keep the heater turned on at the max heat level. Roll a window down if necessary. Check and top up the overflow bucket daily and top up as necessary. The bubbles should disappear after a few days, then you can tighten the cap. This should also solve your no heat problem. Once the bubbles are gone you can tighten the cap.

If the problem doesn't fix itself in a week, you should have the car looked at for a possible bad head gasket, which would force air into the cooling system. Hope this helps.

Try this.

With the engine cool remove the radiator cap. Now start the engine and let it warm up to the point where the thermostat opens. You can usually tell when this happens by checking the temperature of the upper radiator hose, and the coolant level in the radiator. It will start getting a lot hotter quickly when it does and the coolant level should drop.

While the engine is warming up, watch the coolant in the radiator for air bubbles. Fill up the radiator as needed while continuing to watch the coolant level. Having the radiator cap off while doing this allows the trapped air to escape more easily. If you do have a large air blockage then when the thermostat opens you should see a large drop in the coolant level. You want to keep the Radiator full. Once the air bubbles seem to have stopped you can replace the radiator cap.

You may have to repeat the process a couple times if there is a large amount of air trapped in multiple pockets.

A cracked head or block you can usually diagnose as there will be a lot of small bubbles coming out constantly while the engine is warming up, and even more bubbles if you rev the engine higher as the compressed air/fuel will be forced into the cooling system.

The thermostat went all the way to the red zone, telling me the car was extremely over heated. The heater was not blowing hot air, there is plenty of coolant and it wasn't hot, the oil wasn't hot, but...


It's possible that you have air in the system. In these cases, a hot air bubble can form near the temperature sensor, and the bubble can also prevent coolant flow to the heater. Recommend you park on an incline, open the radiator cap, if you have one, start the car and let it warm up. Open any blled ports you can find on the cooling system to let any air out. Fill the radiator to the top, if possible--do not fill the reservoir to the top if that is the only place you can add coolant.
Note, if air bubbles continue to come up in the radiator or reservoir after the car is hot and coolant is flowing, you may have a blown head gasket. Let me know if you have any questions.

Replaced water pump and termastate, car still over heats....is there some kind of in-line valve for the coolant


When you put thermostat in did you put spring side towards the engine? Did you get the air pockets out? Do both upper and lower radiator hoses get hot? If both radiator hoses get hot then you got out the air pockets. Does the cooling fan kick on? Is the air deflector still on the car. The next step is to check for blown head gasket. Get the engine hot make sure both radiator hoses are hot and antifreeze is filled to the top hold rpms around 20 to 25 grand and watch for air bubbles. If there is air bubbles and the antifreeze doesn't go down that a good chance of head gasket. I the antifreeze goes down that just air pockets coming out. If you not sure or want to double check after making sure your system is fuel of antifreeze and let engine get cold. Then start car and run 20 to 25 hundred rpms and watch for air bubbles. This sometimes is easier because you're not dealing with that hot antifreeze. They also make what they call a block tester if you want to spend more money. They work but I'm not that thrilled about them. The best way is with an exhaust analyzer also known as emission machine to test for HC in the cooling system. Just be very careful if antifreeze goes up the probe it will damage the machine. If you run through all this checks you should find what is causing the problem. Opps I forgot the temp gauge and or temp light may not be right but if your also steaming it's not them.

Where is the bleeder valve for the radiator on a


SATURN USED A PRESSURE COOLANT SURGE TANK AND A INLET SIDE THERMOSTAT.THEY DONT HAVE BLEEDER SCREWS.YOU NEED LET CAR SET A LITTLE AT A TIME CRANK ENGINE FOR FEW MINUTES TURN OFF ENGINE.CHECK COOLANT LEVEL WHEN ENGINE SET LONG ENOUGH NOT TO SCALD YOU REMOVE PRESSURE CAP.ADD COOLANT TO SURGE TANK UNTIL LEVEL STAYS AT HOT FULL.WHEN COOLANT LEVEL QUIT DROPPING YOU HAVE THE RIGHT AMOUNT COOLANT.YOUR PRESSURE CAP COULD CAUSE OVER HEATING AND THE THERMOSTAT COULD BE BAD ALSO.

Air bubble in coolant.


Replace the thermostat. That is the only cause of the bubbles.

Replaced water pump & thermostat, flushed heater core and still have only a constant warm air but wont heat up. There is not an electric heater control. Could it be in my dash panel?


YOU MAY HAVE A AIR BUBBLE IN YOUR SYSTEM. NO MATTER HOW HOT THE CAR GETS IT WON'T PUSH HEAT THROUGH THE AIR BUBBLE. LOOK FOR THE HIGHEST POINT IN YOUR COOLING SYSTEM. I SUSPECT A HEATER HOSE. YOU HAVE TO GET THE AIR OUT OF IT.

Air conditioner blows hot air fully charged with


compressor or receiver/dryer or condensor may need to be replaced. Further testing will have to be done. Look into your sight glass and see if there is any bubbles in the glass, or if glass is extremely foggy. If so, you may have air in the system. Check to make sure you are getting power to the compressor.

Temperature gage has fluctuates between 100 and 260, the water is full and fan seems to be working ok, and all belts seems to be ok.


You need to verify that the gage is accurate, if it is then the cause is the thermostat, but check the gage first, a repair shop can do this or you can feel the air coming off the radiator fan, if it is really hot changing to cool rapidly then the T-Stat is sticking open.
