Question about 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche LTZ

Open Question

My 2007 Avalanche smoking from the exhaust at startup. Yesterday I had to add a quart of oil. Chevy had it for a week and found nothing wrong with it. It has 79K on it and is a 5.3. What gives?

SOURCE: 2007 Chevy Avalanche burns oil.

IF ENGINE IS FRESH,NOT BEEN BEAT ON AND YOU KNOW THE HISTORY TRY THE PCV VALVE AND HOSE. PCV MAY BE RECIRCULATING THROUGH INDUCTION AND BURNING YOUR OIL. THIS IS ASSUMING PISTON RINGS ARE GOOD AND YOU ARE USING THE RIGHT OIL. SEE IF AIR FILTER IS DIRTY,IF SO REPLACE IT AND NOT WITH A K&N IT DAMAGES MASS AIR SENSORS AND FUEL MILEAGE WILL GO BYE BYE AND POSSIBLY DRIVEABILITY ISSUES. MARK DIP STICK AND TRY THESE FIRST. QUICK CHECK PULL OFF INDUCTION TUBE,OPEN THROTTLE BODY AND JUST LOOK IN FOR OIL IN THE INTAKE MANIFOLD.

Has anyone had a problem with excessive oil consumption?

just about everyone does with either an old car or a new car with high mileage.how excessive? is oil consumption.well first thing is to check for oil leaks either underneath the motor or any oil lines feed into the motor .any major leaks would be pretty noticeable.if none are present then one would assume that your motor is burning the oil through the exhaust system .check to see what color smoke is coming threw the tail pipe.blue or black smoke indicates oil burning white will indicate engine coolant burning.in any case some color smoke is normal just depends on how much.so lets say your exhaust smoke is normal still could be burning oil just not a noticeable amount.on average you shouldnt have to add anymore than 2 quarts a month or every 1000 miles .depending on your driving conditions if you are having to add more than this there would be a leak some where or heavy color smoke.keep up on oil changes and always add lucas oil usually 1 quart its alot thicker than conventional oil so it reduces engine wear and will handle any small leaks in the engine components like the pistons and rings.if problem still present get to a dealer or certified mechanic as soon as possible good luck.

have a compression test done to check for head gasket problems . check for cracked head . Check for corroded faces where the coolant can get into the exhaust system . a pressure test done and check for leak behind the water pump body. Check for leak in the heater core.AS to the oil pressure problem replace the oil sender unit and check for the results.

Smoke from the exhaust at start up means that the valve seals are leaking oil into the cylinder, smoke when you accellerate means that the piston rings are leaking oil.

2007 jeep rubicon using 1 quart of oil every 1000 miles

If it is not visibly leaking oil - the exhaust should be smoking. If the smoke comes out when you lift off your foot and when you start frost thing in the day, it could be valve stem seals leaking. If it smokes while you drive normally your rings need replacing.

Upon starting avalanche blue, white smoke comes out of tail pipe. using oil bad only 37,000 miles.

Take that truck into the dealer and have them repair it under the powertrain warranty. 2007 offered a 5 year/100,000 mile warranty.

The smoke on startup is the result of oil getting past the valves.

Bought an 07 avalanche used at 30k miles. Burns about 2 quarts of oil every other week. No oil stains in driveway. White smoke occassionly when starting up. Dealership doesnt have a clue.

Replace the driver side valve cover. It leaks internally into the pcv system and gets burned. you don't see much smoke because the catalytic convertors burn it up.
