Question about 1997 Chevrolet Blazer

1 Answer

I think the starter in my 1997 chevy blazer is bad. when i try to turn it over it tries to start for just a second, but then stops and begins to click. i used to have a problem with my battery posts where sometimes it would start and i would have to tighten the posts and it would start right up, but that didnt work this time. the battery is fairly new so i dont think it would be that but im not sure.

Try removing the battery cables and boost the vehicle with another. If it starts, replace the battery. If it doesn't start check for any loose connections at starter and for power at starter. If you have power, remove starter and have it checked and replace if necessary.

All acc power stays on and starter wont stop turning over when battery is connected in my 1997 chevy blazer

I would take a look at the wires down at the starter. He may have the large positive wire shorting to the smaller, trigger, wire. This could potentially cause a back-feed through the whole system.

Shut truck off an tryed to start it an it wouldnt even try or make a sound is that the distributor thats causing this problem

No it sounds like you have a bad connection from the battery to the starter or a bad starter.Try tapping on the side of the starter with a hammer while someone tries to start it and if it turns over then the bendix in starter is bad.

1997 chevy blazer turns over but wont start, starts once in a blue moon

Mine did that when the fuel pump needed to be replaced. Try this a mechanic friend told me this once to basically save my starter. Turn the key to on (only far enough for the radio to come on) count to like 15 or 20 turn the key back to off and then go ahead and start it up. It sounds stupid, but it got the Blazer to turn over until I could get it brought in for the fuel pump to be replaced. I hope that helps you.

It is a 1997 Chevy Blazer. I looked under the hood their is no fuse box for a starter relay fuse. I am trying to figure out where it is located. The starter works but the car won't start. We replaced the...

IF THE MOTOR WILL START WHEN YOU JUMP START, THE BATTERY IN THE BLAZER MUST BE LOW. USE A D.C. VOLTMETER, THE VOLTAGE AT THE BATTERY WITHOUT JUMPER CABLES, SHOULD NOT DROP BELOW 9 VOLTS WHEN THE STARTER IS TURNING. THERE IS A CRANK FUSE IN THE INTERIOR FUSEBOX. & A STARTER RELAY UNDER THE HOOD. BUT IF THE STARTER IS TURNING, THOSE ITEMS ARE WORKING. THEY ARE ONLY TO MAKE THE STARTER TURN. GOOD LUCK, DRVOLT.

I can't find the starter relay fuse. I think that is what is bad in my dad's blazer. It is a 1997.

LIGHTLY TAP ON THE STARTER WITH A HAMMER WHILE SOMEONE HOLDS THE INGNITION KEY IN THE START POSITION. iF IT STARTS THAN REPLACE THE STARTER. THE STARTER RELAY IS IN THE FUSE BOX UNDER THE HOOD.

My husband just needs to know where is the location of the starter relay on our '97 chevy Blazer 4.3 engine, 4x4? Is it near the passenger side or the drivers side?

When you go to start the engine you are actually sending power from the ignition switch through a 20 amp fuse [crank fuse] then through the Park/Nuetral safety start switch and finally to the starter relay [located at the center rear of the engine compartment] This relay then sends a more powerful current flow down to the starter solenoid located on top of the the starter which then closes and allows full battery voltage from the large battery cable to energize and spin the starter. I don't think I've ever had to replace a starter relay on these but have replaced a large number of starters with bad solenoids and bad Park/nuetral switches. The "crank" fuse could also be bad but that is also pretty rare.

There are no free full diagrams on the net, you need to charge and test the battery, clean the battery cables and run a voltage drop test as well, replace them if the are badly corroded. Kragen will test the battery for free.
