Try keeping steady pressure on shift handle while moving to disengage fully then try again. sometimes it takes awhile. I had a
heck of a time with mine until i kept steady pressure on the shifter
to get it out of 4 wheel drive while moving,, gentle pressure.

4 wheel drive problem

check your linkage bolt first. if it has came loose you will need to make sure it is set to be in 2 wheel drive.first make sure your shift lever is in the 2 wheel drive postion then crawl under the jeep loosen the nut move the lever all the way forward (front of the jeep) this is 4 low , move it back one notch and this is netural, move it back one more and this is 4 high, move it one more notch this is 2 wheel drive. tighten the bolt. this should get you back on the road.

Can't tow a 1993 Cherokee Country 4 down.

The easyest and cheapest way is to remove the drive shafts if its an automatic. If its a standard shift, you don't have to do anything but put everything in netural. I don't know of anything you you can chg. to do what you want.
