Question about 2007 Mini Cooper S Convertible

Open Question

I use the convertible top on my 2005 Mini Cooper S CONSTANTLY with no problem. HOWEVER today when I got in the car and held the button down, it went back in the sunroof position, I held it again, the windows went down... then the "claws" started to open, but the claw on the passenger side didn't seem to be right. The motor sound kept running, but nothing happened. I put it back in the closed position, but the latch or claw on that side didn't seem to close completely down. The driver side looks fine/normal/closed, but the passenger side claw just doesn't look totally closed - like you can still see the metal piece (but not on the driver side)... any clue? It's finally INCREDIBLE weather and I can use the top down without sweating and it won't go back... It does close back to the point where the light goes off, but the passenger side still doesn't look right. :( HELP ::praying for an inexpensive fix::

Sparay lock assy with lubricant, and look where release cable attaches to lock assy, and push/pry it one way or the other to get it to move, opposite of where it is. Lube cable too.

SOURCE: mini cooper 2005 convertible top broken

Talk to your dealer, they should make a claim to MINI. Just look on google, you are not the first with this problem. In many cases MINI has covered the labour and sometimes the parts. Find as many simular problems as you can on the internet (www.mini2.com, www.northamericanmotoring.com) and print these and take them with you to your dealer.
It should cost you not more than $400

SOURCE: Mini cooper convertible top won't go up

do you hear hydralic motor if not use test light while operating control switch up and down position, you need a helper for this procedure.if power is at switch, see if power at hydralic motor while helper work the control switch, if no power at motor hook test light to good ground if no power at hydralic motor check fuse.if power at hydralic motor and you hear no sound hydralic motor bad.if power going to control switch and not to hydralic motor either control switch bad or you have broke loose wire at switch going to motor.if all electrical system okay and when you work the up switch and hear hydralic motor running your hydralic fluid level low reason why convertible top not going up.check fluid level at the side of the motor and pump you should see screw type check plug.you should have see through side reservoir fluid level should be between min and max marks.if fluid is low check for leaks at the pump hoses and hydralic cylinders.

Hi, When i press the button to open the electric (convertable) roof it only starts to open on the left side, the right side is not even responding... Do you have any idea why or how this is...

More than likely the cable on the inside of the right mechanism snapped. To repair it, the entire mechanism needs replaced to the tune of upwards of $3000 USD. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. And even worse is there is no real way to check it without pulling the mechanism apart. I hope you find this information useful. You may wish to stalk the junkyards for one out of a junker. You can probably hook one of those up for about $300.00. You may also wish to look for the lift mechanism. Here is a place that has both, pretty reasonably priced. They could also help you to pinpoint the problem better based on you actual experience.

I borroweD this mini cooper convertible and can't figure out how to get the top down

The car must be stopped before the top will go down. Simply press ahd hold the button just above the rear-view mirror. If you are out of the car you can use the key just hold the unlock button and the windows will go down and top will open to the "sun roof" position...release the button and press and hold again to finish lowering the top.

2007 Mini Cooper Convertible top doesn't open all the way when I push the button.

The top down function is a two step process...1- hold button until sunroof is all the way open then release button. 2- Press and hold button again until top goes all the way down.

If you try this and it still doesn't work , note the light on the button. If it's flashing it indicates a fault... most likely an obstruction. Check that latches on rear cargo shelf are firmly latched. Check that parcel shelf is firmly down. (open and firmly close all three of these things and try again)

cheers

often times this problem ends up needing a front sunroof section of the conv top replaced. The cable that drives the hooks to unlatch is most likely broken and that is currently the only fix. EXPENSIVE. Sorry
