yes i have a 2piece drive shaft with a carrier bearing in the center but the reason i changed all this is because i ran my rearend out of fluid cause of a leak so i blew the rearend and it snapped the pinon gear and caught a little fire. now is it possible that i could of warped the housing were the pinon comes out by the yolk or would it just crack it cause i got some people tellin me that u cant warp it because its cast but then i got some people telling me that it would crack or nothing would happen .

Sounds like the gears are not set up right.Ring gear to pinon! if there is too much backlash it will be noisy, and the pinion to the ring gear depth is critacal too.If all the bearing look ok i,d say its a gear problem. Although bearing noise gets worse at higher speed.Do you have a 2 piece drive shaft, with a carrier bearing in the center,it may be rough?

1998 mercury sable gs has humming noise coming from rearend drivers side.

noise travels in a car so what appears to be from a side may be coming from a center
if the hum is harmonic ( increase and decrease in volume level)or is dependent of speed it could be a tight "u" joint in the drive shaft
reverse is really not in the equation as you would never be going backwards as fast as forwards
I take it that the mileage at purchase is 70,000miles not 170,000 miles
could be normal drive line noise getting more pronounced as the suspension bushes firm up with age or collapse with age so rear engine mount, diff and suspension rubbers checked

Driving an take my feet off the gas padal a roaring noise

possibly a universal joint or (carrier bearing /if you have a 2 piece drive shaft) if thats not it, then rearend may need gear oil. reason you get that when you takefoot off gas, it allows slack, adn takes off the force to the jouint or rearend, then when you push the gas down again the pressures back on therefore adding tension

hello
Sounds to me like it could be a wheel bearing bad the best way to tell without tearing it apart would be when you are driving down the road and it is making the noise slightly turn the steering wheel left and right if the noise changes at all then it is the wheel bearing pretty commen problem
good luck

I would start by checking your wheel bearings. Do this by pushing back and forth on the top of your tire or car near the tire. If the tire wobbles back and forth at all your hub assembly should be replaced. For this problem I would check for this first.

if its coming from the gas tank area the only thing i can think of would be the fuel pump..they make a little humming sound, but if its making a howling sound it might be going bad. does this help?

There is a humming sound coming from the front end of my 1999 oldmobile alero. Only happens when the car is moving. I dont hear itat idle or even when pushing the gas at idle. could it be my transmission...

Hello! If the humming noise is speed related(gets louder as vehicle speed increases)check front wheel bearings. If the noise goes away when turning one way or the other then it will most likely be in the front wheel bearing. If you turn the wheel(while moving)to the right and the noise goes away it is on the right side. If you turn the wheel to the left and the noise goes away its on the left side. Hope this information helps!

Winding noise

Is this noise coming from the rear of the vehicle, if so it "sounds" like a rear pinion bearing concern, this would make a winding noise when under a load(accelerating) and disappear at other times. Keep me posted

2000 audi a4 low erratic humming noise

Could be a transmission issue. Did you hit any objects while driving ? Have you performed a visual inspection under your vehicle ? Have you checked to see if you have any loose vacuum hoses ? Any codes in your engine control module or transmission control module ?

Humming noise

the noise is most likely your roof rack if you have one. my tracker does the same thing (2000) and i think its the roof rack. im used to it now anddont mind the extra outside noise as it works well along with my Deer Alert wistles to help avoid deer hits.
