Where is the Vapor Canister Vent Solenoid located on a 2003 Chevy Silverado 1500, 4.3L engine? And do you ave to remove the pick-up bed to access it, if it is on top of the tank?

No you don't have to remove the pick up bed to get at it. It's on the left frame rail along side of fuel tank !
Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle . Disconnect the evaporative emission (EVAP) canister vent electrical connector, if equipped. Disengage the 2 vent valve pipe clips securing the pipe to the underbody.
Remove the clips from the underbody and discard.
Disconnect the vent valve pipe at the EVAP canister. Remove and retain the EVAP canister vent valve bracket mounting bolt. Remove the complete EVAP canister vent valve assembly with bracket attached and discard.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

045500 error code on a Chev silverado 1500 2009 5.3 lt what does it say

DTC P0455
  • Evaporative Emission (EVAP) System Large Leak Detected

2005 chevy 1500 silverado eng. light on ran code p0455 and p0449 how to fix the problem. and how much work it takes. thanks STEVE.

P0449 is the evap vent valve solenoid circuit malfuntion.
P0455 is an evap gross leak
Perhaps the gross leak code has to do with the vent valve. Find the vent valve. It should be near a rectangle evap canister. Maybe under the bed. The small vent line from the fuel tank will go to it. The solenoid is near the cansiter. With the key off the valve will be open. With the key on it should be closed. You may try disconnection the hose and blow through it with both key off and on and see if air will pass through. If the valve has died and is stuck open, that can be the huge leak.

If it is not the leak then a smoke machine should be used. Easier than searching the lines for bad o-rings, splits, or whatevers.

Hello Edwin, I purchased the evap emission control purge valve, but I don't find anything that looks like it mounted at the firewall. The reading I am getting is 449.

the code you have is for the evap vent solenoid. it is not mounted in engine compartment!!! You will find the vent solenoid valve mounted by the gas tank.It is located on the frame top right where the bed and cab meet drivers side.hope this helps thanks for using fixya

2007 SILVERADO V6 EVAP PURGE SOLENOID

The evap purge solenoid is located on the intake manifold. The evap vent valve is located on the side of the fuel tank. If you have a P0449 or P0452 (I think) DTC, it will be the one on the tank that you need to replace.

04 chev. 1500 fuel tank will not take gas, gas

Evap vent solenoide is stuck closed. Start by replacing the valve and checking the hose to the valve for clogs...this is located between the cab of the truck and the bed of the truck on the driver side (can be seen if you look down through the crack)....If this doesn't work then check the fuel filler neck hose for kink or restriction this is the hose that goes from the gas cap to the fuel tank.

DTC P0446 Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Vent System Performance

The vehicle control module (VCM) monitors the performance of the evaporative emission (EVAP) system by applying a predetermined level of vacuum to the EVAP system and monitors the vacuum decay rate. The VCM sets this diagnostic trouble code (DTC) if the vacuum decay rate is more than a predetermined value. The VCM monitors the amount of vacuum and the amount of pressure in the EVAP system by monitoring the fuel tank pressure sensor. For this DTC, the VCM turns ON both the EVAP purge valve and the EVAP vent valve when the Conditions for Running the DTC are met. This applies an engine vacuum to a closed EVAP system. The VCM turns OFF both the EVAP purge valve and the EVAP vent valve when the system reaches a correct amount of vacuum. The EVAP system should quickly RELEASE the vacuum in the EVAP system with the EVAP purge valve OFF and the EVAP vent valve OFF (open). This test indicates a blocked or restricted EVAP vent path if the EVAP system fails to release the vacuum quickly enough.
