Question about 2000 Ford Focus

1 Answer

When I am driving my 2000 Ford Focus at 30 or above, I hear a noise that sounds like either plastic or something is rubbing against the tire. I can not find anything that is close to the tire that would cause the sound. What could it be?

I hear a loud grinding noise when turning to the left. It is coming from the right front tire and I do not think it is the ball joints. We have tried a couple of basic tests on them.

Check the inside of the tire for signs of rubbing against something. Strangely worn tread, cuts, etc. would be signs of such.

so hard to diagnose over the phone, however, you could try a couple of things, check to see if any of the tires are rubbing against anything. if not, can you try and distinguish where the sound in coming from? in the engine compartment, it might be something like a shredded belt, or it could be your u-joint...try those first, best of luck

jack up the rear wheel and spin the rear wheel to find out what the rub is. look to see if there is any rubbing marks on or in the fender well.( do not have on the emergency brake) Also if the noise could be metalic then it could be the brake drum rubbing on the backing plate.
