Hi!!

I don't think you need to reset anything, when you disconnect the battery the computer module has to relearn everything all over, it may take a few trip to relearn, the only thing that is not reset is the mileage I believe, but as long as you state that it is not the orignal mileage on the Vehicle Title, you'll be OK!

Try to use an Automotive Memory Saver, sold at most auto parts, this will avoid having the PCM and TCM memories erased.

Good Luck!! Don't forget to rate this post!!

Hi

The connector behind the instrument panel locks into a plug that is attached to the dash itself. The copper terminals spread out after being disconnected two or three times, causing the lights or guages to act up intermittently esp. over bumpy roads. Take the cluster out and clean the board terminals and close up the harness connector terminals. Warning, there are live wires there, disconnect your battery first.
To remove the instrument panel first turn the car off & disconnect the battery. Set some blocks on the wheels. Turn the ignition on, and move the shift lever all the way to the right (low gear). Then, remove the screws from all the dash trim and (carefully!!!) pull it away - there might be some snap locks also, you don't wanna break those! After that, the panel comes out just by removing some screws. You disconnect the speedometer cable and the small string going to the gear indicator (again, be careful!)

Please accept the solution if it’s helpful. Do get back to us for any further query.

2004 Chevy Trailblazer - instrument panel works fine except the digital odometer reading went out and does not display anything?

You will have to have the cluster repaired. If you are handy, you can take the cluster out yourself. There a number of vendors on Ebay who repair clusters.

Speedometer works sometimes on 95 neon

Common on those is the dash cluster connection itself, there is a plug on the back of it, that you pull off & i ended up using tweezers or needle nose pliers and just very slightly twisted or bent ends of the male spade (small) contacts on the cluster itself, one by one. re-attached everything & problem cured. If you just pull trim around the cluster, it will come off, then 3 or 4 screws and cluster will lift out of there, unplug harness, do as described & re-install. Let me know how you make out. Did it 2 or 3 times in my 95 neon & it cured it for a few years each time.

You, of coarse, have to remove the Instrument panel. There are I bellieve 3 or 4 screws to remove it. All the meters in the Intrument panel are connected electrically by the screws to the PC board. Do you have a replacement one or do you still have to purchase one? I can tell you step by step how to get the dash apart if you want. I had to do this many time with my car. I have a 96 Honda Accord EX. When you have a car like I do with about 200,000 miles on it, I get a lot of practice replacing just about everything inside the vehicle.

Gauges all went dead on instrument cluster!!!

Had same problem on my 95' about 3 times in 7 or 8 years. Pulled trim panel off around gauges/speedo cluster. 4 screws if I remember correctly, and pulled the instrument cluster out far enough to disconnect plug at back off cluster. Now, the plug that is there,in the dash, that connects to back of cluster, I wiggled or whatever I had to do, ( maybe push it out through the back, then feed it back through hole to front) to get it to come out through the front. Now, see all those little male spades inside the cluster where that connector attaches, I took a pair of small needle nose pliers and bent the very ends of them all, slightly, enough to make better contact with plug in dash, but not so much that they wont go back in to females in dash plug. Then I re-attached plug to back of cluster, after a little di-electric grease applied in plug, pushed cluster back in to position, & just lined up plug in hole where it came out, without putting it in from backside again, so as to allow spades to go deeper in plug, to also aid in getting better contact. The cluster will go back where it was pretty well, but not enough difference to cause any problems, tightened it back in with screws, snapped my trim back on, and fired it up, and all was working again. What I found was that the temperature would kind of dictate when the gauges acted up, so I figured plastic, expansion, contraction might be the cause. For a while, a good wack on top of the dash above the cluster, and everything would come back on, for a while. Anyway, might seem a little tedious but it really only took me about an hour the first time, and a half hour thereafter. Good Luck, hope it cures yours too. Let me know how it goes.
