Question about 1998 Plymouth Voyager
Try this procedure:--
With the key in the ignition tap it lightly with a rubber mallet. May take a couple of taps.Also try spraying wd-40 in the ignition switch module then retry after few minutes.If still the same proper after trying this procedures then yes its necessary to replace the ignition switch,ignition lock module.
To remove the ignition switch out,this is the procedure.
1) First unplug the battery terminals.
2) Then take the three screws out of the plastic shroud around the switch and turn siganl assembly.
3) Then take out the three torx screws (special ones with the post in the center...anti tamper) out of the switch. 4) 4) Then unhook the two electrical connections and switch will come out easily.
Now to replace ignition key cylinder.
IGNITION SWITCH & LOCK CYLINDER
Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove steering column cover retaining screws. Remove cable from parking brake release handle. Remove screws holding steering column shrouds. Remove lower steering column shroud.
With key inserted and ignition switch in RUN position, depress retaining tab. See Fig. 1 . Remove lock cylinder. Using No. 10 Torx bit, remove ignition switch mounting screw. Depress retaining tab, and gently pry switch from steering column. See Fig. 2 . Disconnect electrical connectors.
To install, reverse removal procedure. Ensure ignition switch and actuator shaft in lock housing are in RUN position. Lock cylinder retaining tab will depress only in RUN position. Check for proper operation of ignition switch in all positions. Check for proper operation of key-in warning switch.
