Question about 1995 Pontiac Grand Am

Open Question

My front driver side tire is touching my front bumper, so bad that if the wheel were to turn, my bumper would probably break off. Something under the car in the front snapped, and im not sure what it is. Was told it may be the control arm, or the swing arm. any help?

SOURCE: rear strut almost rubs tire

It can be a bent strut or just an alignment issue.
first if you can put the car on a left or jack stands(on the rear but not on the suspention) you can then loosen the 2 bolts at the bottom of the strut at this point you can move the top of the wheel out. then tighten the bolts lower the car and see if that moved the wheel enough. is it did get an alignment and if not replace the strut.

SOURCE: i had my front passenger wheel bearing replaced.

Shaking is usually from tire balance, or tire out of round, but shaking under braking is rotor warped. The bearing failure should have been more of a noise than a shake.

The popping could be from a bad CV axle joint, or a bad wheel bearing. Better get checked, sounds very worn. Raise the wheel on a jack and watch for play. Grab wheel at 3 and 9 o'clock, and shake back and forth-watch for play. Wheel bearing? CV joint -is boot still good? Ball joints at bottom of wheel attaching point to the control arm-check this for play, too.

Flat front tire

you probably have alloy wheels. take rubber headed hammer and hit one side of the wheel, be careful because the wheel could hit you when it comes off.

If its not the bearing and your Mercury is front wheel drive, it could be the "CV" joints.
It could be both....

Is the wheel rubbing the brake caliper?

Is something like the wheel well liner rubbing the tire(airflow pushing it into tire)?

Jack the tire off the ground and rotate it by hand. Push in & out at the top, sides, and bottom of the tire. Little or no play is considered acceptable. If you get a "clunking" sound and/or a lot of play the bearing(s) are bad. (If front wheel drive, chock rear tires, put transmission in neutral so you can rotate tire.)

Hope this helps.

Burning rubber smell from drivers side front tire Ford F150 xlt

Hello, Jack the wheel up and see if it turns freely. You may have a sticky Caliper or bad bearing freezing up the wheel and tire. Check the inside sidewall for any gouge marks. Also check the Power steering reservoir line leading from the reservoir to the front bumper.

There is a recall on certain year trucks for this line. It has a habit of leaking where the line is metal and fits around a body clip on the frame. This would be located under the ABS module.

If this is a 4x4 unit, you can have a dry constant velocity joint and once it gets hot, it is encased in Rubber. I would like to know what you found to share with other clients. Thanks

Right front of car behind front bumper. If you look in the wheel well on the pass. front you will see a plastic panel that is removable. Its in there! Have to take off wheel to get it out.

They are probably rusted on. Take a heavy hammer, like a post mall or similar, and hit the side of tire in, toward the truck. It should break it loose.

Wheel bearing is bad and will need to be replaced. This is a somewhat easy job if you are comfortable with mechanics, but you will need to remove a lot of parts to get at the bearing. You can get a new bearing at your local auto parts store. Please rate
