Question about 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee

1 Answer

I replaced my rear brake light bulbs on my 2002 Grand Jeep Cherokee. The lights work fine as long as I don't have my head lights on. What could be the problem. I just received a citation because of no brake lights and not working turn signals.

The brake and turning lights are on a different switch than the tail lights. Check the fuse for the brake light circuit. Check to see if your front turning lights work. My guess is they won't work either.

How do i replace brake light

Rear: Brake, Back-up, Tail, Turn signal (3 bulbs, all # 3157):
To access the rear bulbs, open the liftgate and remove the two phillips head screws from the side of the housing as shown in the center photo above. Slowly and firmly rotate the assembly away from the vehicle until it disengages from the ball pin socket that secures it in back.

Each of the three light sockets, all containing the same exact bulb type, can be removed by turning them counter-clockwise 1/4 turn.

Left rear brake light goes out when head lights are turned on. Work fine otherwise. What's up with that?

Likely a bad bulb in the brake, it is probably a duel filament and one filament can short inside the bulb to the other circuit. It could also be a bad earth wire to the tail\stop light

1999 jeep grand cherokee - brake lights and turn signals working but Right tail light out with all other lights on--HELP??? My 1999 Grand Cherokee has no parking lights in the rear. The brake lights work...

I have taken my car to many shops to solve this problem. Long story short your tail light has a bad circut and entire lamp must be replaced. (Lamp cost approximate $130.00)

1993 jeep grand cherokee limited no running lights/tail lights.

Id look at the headlight switch and do some voltage tests to see whats coming out of there. Pay close attention to any wires which look like someone was in there already.People can mess stuff up faster and better than the vehicle can by itself!

2002 jeep grand cherokee. Rear left brake light isnt working

The problem with your tail light is the housing is broken where the socket goes in. If you pull that socket out and look you will see the metal tap will be pushed down and the plastic around that will be broke. Easy fix is to replace the lens but you can get under the metal tap with a small flat tip screw driver and pull up on it very lightly and it should work for awhile.

Hope this helps

Right tail light went out.

I have had the same issue recently. I have a 2002 Gr Cherokee Ltd 4.7L. At first I thought it was the bulb, replaced the bulb to no avail. Then I thought maybe the bulb was rattled loose due to my subwoofer, but that still was not the case. After testing all my fuses I decided to test all of my lights. The hazards worked, back up lights came on, tail and brake lights were all working also but for some reason the blinkers will go out and the right rear brake light will not come on. It always comes back on for me though, so now I just use hand signals when it is temporarily not working. My only suggestion is a problem in the wiring.

2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee no back lights

its either a brake light switch or brake light bulb socket not making contact in back because the piece where it makes contact brakes easily.,first check if third brake light on top of your rear door is working, if it is its not the brake light switch
