More than likely alternator is overcharging, i recommend you repalce it. or could be voltage regulator, but most likely alternator is bad.

Battery charge

This usually indicates the battery has a shorted cell. Here is how you can test it. With the engine not running, take a digital voltmeter set to volts function and read the battery voltage. It should read at least 12.3 volts. If the first two digits are 11, then your battery is bad. If you show a battery voltage over 12.3 volts, then you probably have a bad alternator. Beyond that, I need more details, like, does the engine crank ok? Are headlights dim when engine is stopped? What does "battery gauge very high" mean? What is the make of the vehicle?

I have95cadyceville pcm tells me high volts theres one wire off the back of alt true? Change alt will solve?

check voltage manually with volt meter check at the battery and check off the charge wire coming off the alternator should be 13-14 volts +/- anything over 14 volts would be to high a voltage

Amp guage works but battery light is on what is problem

Is that 16 AMPS or 16 VOLTS?? Should be volts from what I remember. 16 volts is WAY to high. Between 12.5 and 14 is normal. So either you have a bad alternator or bad battery or both. If you do not need a hot shot to start it then I would say the alternator. If it stays this high it will affect all electrical systems in the vehicle including the computer. It WILL cook them.

High Output Alternator (240amp) with idle voltage at 13.7. How do I get past the PCM and bring voltage up to at least 14.4? 2013 Camry SE 4Cyl

David,

The high output alternator you have puts out higher amps - not volts. 13.5 volts out is more than enough to keep your car battery charged. Excessive voltage will damage a battery.

If your car requires more amps than the original alternator was able to provide to (1) run the car and (2) all the electric accessories; then a higher output alternator is needed (the battery is only needed to start the engine, that's it - they are designed to provide a large amount of current (amps) for a short period of time as when starting). Otherwise, the battery would have to make up the difference between the what the alternator can provide and the actual amount of amps needed / used. Used this way, the battery lights would dim, engine slows and everything would just stop and go dark.

If you're running a powerful audio amplifier, the current it might need may be so much current that it may be too much for the alternator alone to provide - hence the high output style was installed. You can use one or more large value capacitors - or additional batteries to "fill" in whenever the amplifier briefly needs more current than the alternator can provide - without drawing on the main car battery.

Your alternator is probably just fine.

Battery and brake malfunction light on 15 volts charging

Battery voltage is high, suspect alternator over charging and affecting the monitor. Connect an external volt meter across the battery and start engine 15volts or above will cause problems. If left charging high, it can shorten the life of the battery and damage electronics of the vehicle, things like abnormal amount of bulbs blowing. All electrical equipment is made to operate at around 13 volts with a percentage tolerance, constant running at a higher voltage will cause damage.

Battery light will not go off. Battery is charged and we replaced the alternater.

Put a volt meter on the battery and start the vehicle, see if the alternator is charging to the battery,it should read 14.25 volts with all lights and blower off,and should not be less than 13.75 volts, with headlights on,and ac on high blower motor,it should read 13.65 volts,to 14.25 volts. Also check all fuses to make sure they are not blown, and make sure the large wire on the alternator shows 12 volts or more with the key off.If this wire does not show voltage,or less than battery voltage(12 volts) then that wire is not connecting to the battery positive side.

Our Pontiac Bonneville ssei battery is charging at 14.9 volts

that is too high 14.4 should be the max.  However, a bad or weak battery may keep the voltage up.
