Question about 1997 Subaru Legacy

1 Answer

Just recently replaced the clutch plate in my 1997 subaru legacy GT, but now have no turbo boost, The car runs smooth but developed a rustling noise in the front when in idle. By the way the fuel consumption is crazy. Checked all the hoses to and from the inter cooler and they seem to be tight with no cracks. What else could be the problem?

It sounds like a lack of fuel to the injectors. check the fuel manifold pressure and the regulator. run fault codes to check for faulty sensors.

Noise when accelerating -sounds like a sqealing bearing, noise goes when clutch is pushed in or engine not accelerating

either the clutch is wearing out and grinding into yht pressure plate ot the throw-out bearing is bad. sounds like clutch is slipping though

2005 Subaru Legacy GT Manual Transmission - while on interstate, heard a noise and then felt like losing acceleration. Pulled off exit and lots of smoke coming out of exhaust. Not a head gasket - no...

sounds like something to do with your turbo.. could be loosing boost through an air leak etc... which is where the oil might also be coming from if there has been a blowout pressure goes out oil comes in causeing smoke and loss of acceleration.

My rs legacy keeps loosing boost randomnly

check wastegate(round valve on turbo)is working it may be loosing vacuum,or you have an electrical issue with the boost controler, but check wastegate first as its easier and could be the problem

Just wondering if it possible to make the twin turbos on a 2002 legacy gt work at the same time like a single turbo instead of converting it to single turbo

The turbos are two different types. One is designed to start a bit lower in the revs and the other to come in when the revs are higher. Its called compounding boost. It can be changed but to put it on a sinlgle turbo would cost a fair bit.If you hot up the ones you have by recalibrating them and exhaust, you do get VERY big gains. The car is more driveable and you can get big boosts in power if the tuner knows what he is doing. Some really big horsepower units come from triple compounding turbos and the torque levels are extremely high.Hope this helps
