A 60K servicing on a 1996 Isuzu Hombre costing $300 minus the $169 they wanted to replace the spark plugs. the car wouldn't start later today. don't they check battery voltage at these servicings?...

I saw that you previously posted that your battery was run down after charging a computer. If you did not ask them to check the battery than it would not have been checked as part of the 60k service. I also saw that you where having some driveabilty problems. A shop would have a diagnostic charge to figure out the problem and give an estimate for the needed repairs to fix it.

Was this discussed when you dropped the vehicle off for service.

I'm not really sure what your question is? If you asking if a battery check is part of a 60k service then no it's not. Many shops offer some sort of 30k service. This would be different than a manufacturer maintenance schedule. Most 30k services (shops may call it something different) would include a complete inspection of the vehicle (belts, hoses, battery, lights, fluids, brakes, tires, suspension, filters, plugs, etc) as well as a balance and rotate, fluid exchanges (differentials and transfer cases are usually additional), and some other minor services. These types of services are typically more than $300. $300 seems about right if the manufacturer schedule services where performed on your vehicle.

If there is something I missed or if you have more questions I would be happy to help out.

What does the 60k mile maintenance entail? how much it cost?

The dealer will get top dollar for anything they do, or possibly persuade you to do. At 60k, besides check this or check that, it is wise to do air filter every15k, max 30k. Fuel filter every 15k, max 30k. cabin filter every15k. Spark plugs these days can go as high as 100k. Serpentine belt at 45-60k. Coolant flush and fill every 30k, or every 2-3 years. Rotate tires every 6-8k. Oil and filter change every 3-5k. Most of that 700.00 is probably labor at probably $100/hr. to check brakes, check tires, check battery, safety check, etc., run tests, install new filters. All these dealers have checklists they establish to give you full security and comfort in knowing your car is safe and reliable.. You seem to know a little about it...it's the old saying, don't fix it if it ain't broke. At least discuss it with them, and then make an educated decision.

I have a 2006 Sonata and I took it in for 30K service. Our manual says that it needs itsnual was out of date. oil changed; air, oil and fuel filter replaced, and other systems inspected. It says to...

There must be a 1-800 number in your owner's manual. Call them and ask if there has been any changes to the maintenance schedule for your car and if so, what changed and when. They will tell you and then you will have an answer to your question but my guess is you are on the right track. Hope this helps.

Does a 1998 v6 accord need a tune-up? I can't find the manual or a maintenance schedule online. I don't want to call the dealer 'cuz they just want your money. My car has 140k miles and runs pretty...

All engines need periodic tuneup. At the least is spark plugs, fuel and air filters, and O2 sensor(s). Any timing belt driven overhead cam engine should have the timing belt replaced every 50 to 60K miles. If it fails while running, nasty things happen to valves and pistons--this problem varies by manufacturer and engine design. You should change the oil filter along with every oil change.

Service schedule

All major Lexus Services are every 30K. So your 60K service is the next major one. It's usually $600-$800 depending on the car. I usually do those and do the rest myself.
