Question about 1998 Buick Century

1 Answer

I have a 98 Buick Century Limited and my starter went out the other day and my fiancee got it back on and then when he got it started the battery light and brake lights came on(which neither were on before) and from then on I have been getting new alternators and starters, do u think that maybe the starter was on wrong from the beginning because I havent had any problems like this before?

I would suspect that he may have gotten the wires on wrong, or something is shorting out near the starter.

Do you have power at the starter when the key is in the start position?
Could be a dirty or loose connection between the battery and starter, or something else.

2003 buick century won't start -replaced battery, no clicking noise

Check for power on the large wire at the starter. There should be power all the time. Check for power on the small wi at the starter. There should be power with the key in the crank position. If both of the above are true than the starter is likely bad.

2003 buick century will not always have power, no lights, radio etc.

It could be the battery cables because they can build up acid inside the wire causing problems. The next time it does this take a hammer and tap on the center of the starter housing it could be the bendix bad in the starter.

I have a 2000 buick century and it gets power to everything but wont crank over

If you look at the key you should see a back plastic piece with a little metal strip in it try to clean it with alchol. it is a resistor that tells the car it has the right key

I have a 97 buick century and been having trouble starting it, wal-mart said bad battery so replaced it then had trouble starting and said may be something else wrong, went home, now car wont start, could...

it could mean that the starter is bad, but it could also be something easy like a loose connection on the battery a bad battery wire, or a dead battery indicating the alternator may not be functioning
you stated that you have been having problems starting it, I am assuming that it was really slow cranking over which is why you replaced the battery. if this is the case then you are probably in need of a starter.
hope this helps

The car won't start after being turned off for a while. We replaced the battery already and now the new battery went dead. Something is draining the battery down to nothing, but we can't figure out what.

most wiring problems occur at rear of vehicle check for a wire rubbed thru bare on suspension drivers side frame also check wiring around starter and also taillight wiring at back end....if itwent dead siitting there then power drain is on right track it is fine once running alt chargeing proper?
