I own a 2001 Ford Expedition and have had to remove the fan and clutch assembly last week. The rotation is counter clockwise (looking at the front of the block) to remove the clutch off the water pump shaft. I believe the wrench used was a 1 1/4". Good luck.............Chris

How to remove the fan clutch

To remove fan clutch, you need a special clutch fan tool. Sometimes i can remove it with a large adjustable wrench while locking the water pump pulley. Remember to turn counter-clockwise.

Removal of fan clutch on a 1999 Dodge Dakota 3.9 engine.

They make a specil tool to remove it, but you can use a long chisel and hammer to break the fan clutch lose. The chisel has to be long enough so you can reach the latge looking nut that is between the fan clutch and the water pump pulley. Take the top part of the radiator shroud off by removing the two bolts on each side of shroud. Than there is 4 to 6 bolts going across the front of the shroud. Next take the long chisel and catch the edge of the large nut and tap it so the large nut rotates counter clockwise when you hit it with fairly good force. That should break it loose. If not hit it harder. Once it is lose you can turn counter clockwise until it comes off. Remove the the fan blade and install it in the reverse order. Hope this helps. Leave comment.

Cant get can fan clutch off to take it off does it go clockwise or counter clock wise

The large nut that holds the fan is removed in a clockwise direction, it will require several sharp hits on an open end wrench to loosen it.

I am trying to replace water pump and need to remove the clutch fan first. How do I do this? It is a manual V6 1999 Dodge Dakota truck.

Before removing the belt turn the nut counter clockwise. You may have hit the wrench with a hammer to loosen it. Because of limited space, the fan and shroud have to be removed at the same time. Do not lay the fan clutch in a horizontal position, stand it up.

Fan removel of water pump

You need a clutch fan removal tool which is just a large open end wrench that is thin. Place the wrench on the fan clutch and give it a smack with a hammer to loosen it. It removes counter clockwise. You may have to hit it a couple of times to loosen it.
