Question about 2004 Porsche Cayenne

2 Answers

Porsche Cayenne 2003 battery removal Problem - cannot remove the battery from my Cayenne. Porsche have 2 splined bolts to fasten the front of the left front passenger seat to the floor. This is NOT a Normal Torx and obviously a specialized spline used by Porsche. I need to get the left front seat out to change/charge the battery. Where can I buy this specialized tool to go onto my 1/2" or 3/8" drive? Any help in this regard will be most gratefully received.

The spline drive or socket is 16 point - I need the technical description of this particular spline/drive so that I can purchase one from someone other than Porsche, since their prices are ridiculous.
Please give me the technical description like TORX 40 etc
    Regards, Graham

hey guy, do you know what the splined drive that goes into the bolt head is called, so I can buy one?

  • drgraham Sep 07, 2010

I have subsequently been told that the SPLINED DRIVE that fits onto my 1/2 inch extension and power bar is called a MULTI-SPLINE 12 point socket tool similar to a Torx (which has 6 splines)
and the size I need is a 10mm.
    I phoned a Porsche Workshop
    Thanks for trying

Hi there iambanshee74. My solution was to find a 10mm MULTI-SPLINE Socket in half inch drive to use with my half inch socket power bar or ratchet. The multi spline had 12 splines not 16 (not 6 as in a TORX.) The information was given to me eventually by the Local Porsche Workshop. Apparently the same bolts are also use in the Audi Tuareg to secure the front of the front passenger seat which swings back and up to reveal the same 110 AH battery under it. I eventually did buy one only 10mm in a Snapon tool (from a specialized tool shop) instead of a set of 8, since I will in all probability only use this size.

The spline socket that is used is a 16 point. You may have to get it from Porsche depending on the area you live in. If you are in a big city, you may find it at a local parts store. Either way, Get one and keep it in the car. Look in the trunk first in that little kit, it may be in there in the trunk area near the spare tire. just for info, there are posts in the engine bay, on the driver's side where you can just start the vehicle. There may be one in the trunk area as well that is used to start the engine. Make sure you get the proper battery. If not, it can cause electrical issues that will make you think your car is posessed some how. Let me know if you need anything further.

How to remove right rear seat on a 2014 porsche cayenne

I'm not sure what exactly your asking here, as these seats have built in levers on the top left that requires you to pull them forward releasing the catch at the top of the seat. You must pull the bottom of the seat up first, then remove the headrests and place them in the slots located on the bottom part of the seat. This is for convenience of storage for them. If the lever has broken as this is the case with many, you need to get a screwdriver to lift up the catch on the back of the top part of the seat. If you want to remove the seat entirely you'll need to purchase triple square sockets. I think it's a T20. I beleive it's the same size as for the bolts to remove the front seat to gain access to the battery.

How do i remove rear wiper arm on my 2009 porsche cayenne

Remove cap off of rear wiper arm. Remove nut. As this is a fine splined shaft, you may want to mark the position of the wiper to reinstall it in the exact same position. Now you'll need a wiper puller. Generally found at your local auto parts store. This same puller can be used for the front wipers too. I purchased one for $10.00. Inexpensive compared to what I'm sure a dealer would charge.

How do i change the battery in my 2004 Porsche cayenne turbo? It appears the dealer charges $250 for one and $350 for the other battery and $280 in labor charges.

First, The Porsche Cayenne can have two batteries. The primary is located under the driver seat and the secondary is under the rear trunk/subwoofer. The battery that usually goes bad is the primary. Most auto stores will NOT change this battery for you because of location (Autozone, Pepboys, Advance, O'rielly, Napa). Its very easy to do but you will need a triple square 10mm bit (autozone or napa carries them)
Remove front plastic trim piece by pulling forward
Using triple square bit unbolt the front two bolts
Tilt seat back (helps to move the seat forward once bolts are removed)
Remove plastic battery protector
Remove/replace new battery
Make sure to plug the vent line back into battery

Where is the battery located on a porsche cayenne supergirlsharon_622@msn.com

There is an auxiliary battery in the rear on some models. It is used primarily for starting, while the main battery runs the electronics during normal operation.

Main battery is located under driver's seat. You only need to remove the two silver triple-square bolts to "swivel" the seat back. You may have to remove the seat frame trim at the rear to keep from damaging it when the seat is tilted.

How to change left turn signal bulb

Rear. 2 retainers PLUS a very tight ball socket holding the light assembly into place. Be ready to catch the tail light when you pop it of the ball socket.
Front. Use the headlight removal tool in the tool kit. Open front bonnet and push down and remove tear shape trim on headlight side in question. Place headlight tool onto spline and with one hand ready to "catch" the headlight, turn the tool until headlight pushes forward. Then remove headlight by hand and replace globe as required. Be careful of bayonet fitting. Can be fragile.

How do you jump start a 2005 porsche cayenne? Where are the jump start pegs?

Open front bonnet and remove plastic trim cover at top of left front inner guard. You will see a red cover over a solid pole. This is the POSITIVE power terminal. Connect your power pack RED / POSITIVE cable here and then connect your BLACK / NEGATIVE cable to a good earth point, like the engine mount bolt, bonnet lock, etc..

Windscreen wiper problem

The left and right wiper are on the same fuse and same switch, as well as the same wiper motor. That being said- if one works and the other doesn't, the fault lies with the wiper motor itself, or with the wiper shaft (where the arm connects to the motor.)

A wiper motor has 2 output shafts that either wiper arm connects to. At the base of your left wiper arm is a small cap. (there's one on the right side too, but let it be since it is working!) Remove this and unbolt the wiper arm from the output shaft and pull outwards to remove it.

When you examine the assembly you will notice that the wiper arm and output shaft are splined, which allows the rotational movement of the output shaft to be transferred to the wiper arm. It is common for the contact area of these splines to become damaged. This is often caused by excessive drag on the wiper arm and blade. (ie running the wipers over a dry windshield, or trying to unstick a wiper blade that is frozen to the windshield)

The 1st test is to turn on the wipers and observe the now exposed wiper shaft. Does it spin at all? If it does then problem is damaged splines on the wiper arm. (the arm is made of much softer metal than the output shaft, which makes it easier to repair this problem.)

If it turns out that the splines are damaged the 1st thing to try is to clean them up a bit. I have had luck using a very sharp awl to trace the path of the splines. A locksmiths file is very useful if you need to reshape them a bit. After cleaning up the splines reattach the wiper arm and see if it works. If not the arm will need to be replaced.

Now, if you test to see if the output shaft is turning and it is motionless while the other side wipes away, then the wiper motor and assembly needs to be replaced.

When reinstalling the wiper arm do your best to make its position match the other arm. press it onto the shaft and run the wipers a bit to make sure it is where you want it before bolting it back up.
