Question about 2001 Toyota MR2 Spyder

1 Answer

Last chance saloon before i take the car to toyota & get stung. I own a Toyota MR2 Y ref 2001 with 78k on the clock. 2 days ago the malfunction light came on the dash, car is running well, i see no diffrence at all in the car now light is on. So i rang a diagnostic guy who came out to the the car, he did his thing, came back with 02 sensor partial failure & the problem is around the exhaust he said. Now, i have a heat shield problem on this car, as i can hear it at times when i pull away, it vibrates slightly, i think it has a bolt missing, could this in any way cause my malfunction light to come on ? & if not, what is it ? The diagnostic guy reset all fault lights on dash but 15 mins into journey to work this morning on it comes again. Not sure what to do now, apart from ring Toyota, who i know will get to the prob, just not sure my bank balance can handle it. Any help would be great thanks.

Just to let you know. There is many good shops that have paid to buy the money to buy the diagnostic gear for your car.The main thing is they don't charge the prices the dealers do.This is a real example.A co-worker paid $28 a litre for oil in his kawasaki the other day.It retails for $12....$12.!!!this was at a dealer.
Shop around.Talk to mates.Where do they get their cars done.
Ring around. It will save you heaps
Hope this helps

Remove headlight 2002 toyota mr2

Believe it or not, this is the headache to remove and replace the headlights:

Removal & Installation
  1. Remove the front bumper cover.
  2. Remove the tool box and the luggage compartment trim (carpet).
  3. Remove the 2 bolts and the nut.
  4. Disconnect the connectors, then remove the headlight

My mr2 is leaking right where the top meets the body of the car by the door, you can see light from the inside where the watter is coming in. is there any way to fix this it just started not to long ago....

I have the same issue with mine. I read what's below on convertibletopguys.com, and I wonder if that's not what has happened. Don't know if there is a fix or if replacement is the only option.

Cable Redesign:
In the last two years of the MR2 manufacture, Toyota made a modification to the hold down cables in order to eliminate a tearing problem experienced by many owners of the earlier MR2 tops. The cables sewn into our tops have the improved Toyota configuration cables pre-installed.

I need to change my thermostat on my 1990 toyota mr2 mk2 but also need pictures too.

Its not fun. If you are a MR2 owner you need the BGB. There are 2 Big Green Books that can be purchased at Toyota.( mechanical and electrical).........or you can use www.mr2-tech.com. The have the step by step procedure on how to do it with pictorial from the BGB. good luck and also go to the MR2board.com and register there. you will find tons of great write ups and tech facts.

1993 toyota mr2 non turbo

The parking brake is adjusted by a small cable located underneath the plastic shield panels on the underside of the car. The bolts will often snap when removing them. If the parking brake is not working well it may be time to replace the cables as they are prone to stretching and freezing. You can get them through rock auto "www.rockauto.com" or at a toyota dealer. Have someone with a lift change them. It should cost no more than $250 to have it done at a garage. There is also a possibility that the calipers are malfunctioning and not adjusting properly, but this is also... best verified and addressed by a garage.
