How do i replace a oil housing gasket on a 2000 3.8 grand prix?

You'll need new gasket for oil pan,,,proper socket and drive to fit the bolts around circumference of pan.scraper and new oil or catch pan to save old oil, approx 5 qts . 1/ Begin by draining oil....drain plug on lower part of pan..get that wrench also.....it is larger than bolts arund pan......2/after drained, put drain plug back in and tighten snugly. not too tite......3/remove pan by removing all the nuts around pan, dislodge pan from it's seal , may takea little tender tapping with rubber mallet to release the pan, do not pry at lip, you may damage pan....4/ Clean both sealing surfaces of old gasket.....5/ dampen new gasket with oil and put it on pan in proper position, ....6/put bolts back in pan one on each side to hold pan up,,,put rest of bolts in pan and tighten in random pattern around pan trying to keep pan even at mating to engine.....7/when pan is on and fairly snug, fill the oil into filler at proper fill neck w proper amt of oil. about 5 qts,U.S......Make sure drain plug is not dripping, if so, put a little more torque on it. Not too much, they are prone to strip. Done. Or, about 40 dollars at oil change place.

I have a jeep liberty05 and my oil pan drain plug was put in by last owner so tightly i had to use an irwin east out in doin so with my impact the inside threade piece that the plug screws into broke off...

YOU NEED TO BUY CORRECT SIZE NEW OIL DRAIN PLUG. YOU TO KNOW YOUR THREAD SIZE ON NEW OIL DRAIN BECAUSE YOU NEED THE RIGHT TAP AND DRILL BIT TO CENTER DRILL THE BROKE BOLT IN SIDE OIL PAN YOU NEED A CENTER PUNCH TO PUNCH A SMALL ENOUGH TO START THE DRILL BIT DEAD CENTER OF BROKE BOLT.OIL PAN NEED TO BE REMOVED TO DRILL HOLE STRAIGHT.THIS IN NOT A EASY JOB.EITHER YOU REPAIR OR DAMAGED OIL PAN DRAIN PLUG HOLE. YOU DRILL BIT HAS TO STRAIGHT WHILE DRILLING HOLE DEAD CENTER OF BROKEN BOLT YOU NEED TO MEASURE LENGHT OF OIL DRAIN PLUG BOLT. THEN USE A PIECE TAPE ON DRILL BIT WRAP A PIECE TAPE AROUND DRILL BIT THE DEPT YOU NEED TO DRILL THROUGH BOLT. LIKE I SAY THIS JOB TAKE SKILL AND A STRAIGHT HAND. BECAREFUL WITH DRILL AND WEAR SAFETY GOGGLES. DONT DO THIS FIX IF YOU NOT SURE OF MECHANIC SKILLS YOU WILL EITHER DAMAGE THE OIL PAN OR FIX THE PROBLEM.

New lug nut installed at Walmart to remedy oil leak caused by stripping is not working. Still experiencing leakage. Would like to avoid buying a new oil pan and lug nut. Read that a self-tapping oil...

That is a judgement call on your part. The self tapping bolt will put a small amount of metal shavings into the oil pan where (hopefully) the magnet inside used to collect filings from engine wear in your oil will grab them. If it doesnt, the metal shaving could cause engine damage. Bring old bolt with you to get the closest possible match. (There is also no guarantee it will tap/seal correctly or withstand being removed/re-installed anfter many oil changes.)

Best solution is to drain oil, remove oil pan, use a threaded insert to restore the bolt to the original one's size and get a new bolt of the o-ring sealing type. This you can do yourself, threaded insert kit + gasket+bolt +oil around $50

Please rate this answer if it helps! Thanks, Mike

How do i change oil in my 1997 caravan

Remove the oil drain plug. Remove the oil filter. Install new oil filter using a little bit of new oil on the seal. Replace the drain plug. Fill with oil through oil filler on valve cover.

Best of luck, Jim

Hi I have a 2000 vw beetle I had the oil changed and it all leaking twice as soon as they put it in it came out. Can you help me with this problem.

Have it towed back to the shop, it sounds like they installed the filter improperly or left the drain plug loose.

OIl drain plug removal 99 dodge neon DOHC

It appears that the threads are stripped on the bolt or pan. To remove the bolt, try having a helper put a couple of screwdrivers (flat) between the bolt and pan, and while you turn the drain bolt to loosen, have them apply pressure downward on the bolt. If you have a carpenters flat pry bar, that would probably work even better to apply downward pressure to help remove the bolt. Next, you'll have to go to a parts store to get a drain plug that is made to replace one w/ bad threads. Let me know how you do. countrcurt0
