There are two marks one on each grear they need to be pointing at each other i belive it is easyest to put the chain on the smaller grea ( the one on the crank) then put in the larger gear ( the one on the cam) but fiddle with it a lil bit and you will figure it out

Is there a place to check the timing on a 1992 3.3 liter Buick with a timing light like you can a 350 chevy

the timing is computer controlled, the only timing marks are on the cam where the timing chain is,,check compression on all cylinders, because getting to the timing chain is a big job,its behind the water pump, here are some videos for you, 1986 cutlass 3 8L timing chain replacement

How do i set the timing on my 98 chevy 350 vortec

You actually can't advance or retard timing on your truck without pulling the timing gears off and manually doing it. however, if you adjust too far you can cause severe damage internal damage to your engine. and the computer is going to try to automatically adjust for whatever adjustment you make. If your question is provoked by a poorly timed engine, ie its running poorly, then i would suggest replacing your timing chain and I always replace the tensioner while i am there as it isn't the easiest thing to do. if you need to know the proper timing let me know.

How do i set the timing in my 95 sonoma with an older carberated 350 from start without taking timing cover off?

There are two kinds of timing, cam timing, and ignition timing. You don't adjust cam timing, it is set when the timing chain is installed. The timing chain cover is supposed to have a pointer welded to it with marks that line up with a mark on the harmonic balancer. (depending on the year of you engine these marks veri in appearance. Ignition timing is set while the engine is running with a strobe light that is triggered by the number one spark plug. On this engine (if it's stock) around 8-10 degrees BTDC. The ignition timing advances with cetrifical weights inside the distributor as well as a vacuum diaphragm. If either of these fail you will have a performance issue with a lack of power, and acceleration. If you are concerned about the cam gear being worn out yes they do wear out. Chevy made the gear teeth on the cam gear out of nylon to make then quieter, the replacement gears are usually cast iron. If you are thinking about changing the timing gears, the crank gear has to be pulled off with a puller, a lot of guys don't bother since it doesn't wear like the cam gear.

I want ti install timing chain in 350 chevy. What TDC marks are used if i use Zoom timing chain whith 3 key way and i use 4 degrees adv. I want TDC with the 4 degrees at crank. I know i put both dots at...

The timing chain is not that fine, nor do you care about advance with the chain. A single link on the chain is more like 15 degrees, and you will have no trouble deciding which is the best fit.
TDC is always 0, and never 4 degrees advanced.
It is the ignition that is advanced, not the chain. To advance the breathing you would need to either change the cam, or get a variable chain sprocket. But again, you can not tell 4 degrees when putting a chain on. It changes that much at least when you take the slack out.

Chevy 350 motor squeal

try checking the belts adjustment first, adjust it if its loose, check the the belt width against your pulley , it could be that belt is wide enough thats why itshitting the pulley thats why it squecks, get a candle and slide it on your belts edge just enough to lubricate them, run the engine and check....

My 89 chevy is making a knocking sound i just replaced lifters, push rods rocker arms timing chain and gears cam and valve springs and umbrella seals. i have no clue what it could be except mabe the timing

Did you check the knock sensor located on the passenger side of the block, behind the starter, The sensor can be bad sending a signal to the Computer causing the computer to readjust the spark advanced timing causing Knocking and pinging....... or it could be as simple as bad gas. If you changed the timing chain, the gears should both be set with the the timing marks at 12 oclock for the 89 chevy K1500 5.7 350 V8 TBI OHV 16V if you set the timing at 12 oclock on the cam and 6 oclock for the valve and Distr. the number 6 is firing as number 1 you can recheck by bringing the No. 1 piston back up to TDC and check to see if your Distr. is pointing to the No. 1 Plug Hope this helps
