Question about Chrysler Crossfire

2 Answers

I put the key in to the ignition and cannot turn the key to start. I twist the steering wheel from right to left and key still won't work. After about 10 minutes of twisting and turning the wheel, and practically bending the key from trying to turn it, it FINALLY will turn clockwise and the car starts. WHAT IS THE PROBLEM? It's an '04 crossfire, auto transmission. Thanks!!!!

I had that problem and read several posts in other forums. I took my car to a locksmith and he removed some kind of pin. After that it worked fine. He called his Chrysler friends and educated them. It was inexpensive, but now with Chrysler knowing what to do it will be triple the price.

Possibly the gear shift lever is contributing to the 'bind'. Try shifting it while doing the other gyrations....see if that helps !

Car locked in park

follow this steps and fix it. GOD BLESS YOU

Ensure that your vehicle's transmission is in park. If you have manual transmission you can skip this step and move on to Step 2.

  • 2 Press the brake of your car completely down with your right foot. If the key of the car is not in the ignition put it there now.

  • 3
Hold the steering wheel of your car firmly with your left hand and the car's key placed in the ignition with your right hand. Turn the steering wheel to the right and left while you twist the ignition key as if you are starting the car. Engaging in these two motions simultaneously will release the ignition switch and allow you to turn the car on.

Sunfire 1997 key not turning in ignition.

Had a similar problem with my Chevy Cargo Van..tumblers in igition old and worn, also noted key/wheel problem like yours. Be extra careful about putting in Park, keeping tension off steering wheel, and being sure key goes in smoothly. Sometimes you just have to jiggle the key and take tension off the wheel. (Beats replacing the ignition locks, etc.)

1997 taurus key won't turn in the ignition, gear selector won't go into gears

Usually a sign the tumblers in the lock cylinder have worn out or jammed.
You may have to get the lock cylinder drilled out and replaced.

Why won't my ignition key turn over and my steering wheel is locked in place at the sametime?

I'm assuming you mean your key wont turn in the ignition. first off check to make sure the car is in park. then what you gotta do is put in the key and put a little pressure as if turning but dont turn too hard, then even though the steering wheel is locked you will have to try to move it a little, if you parked with your tires turned then you will want to try to turn the wheel in the same direction, (even locked you should be able to move it about a half inch) you will have to turn the wheel hard but it should move enough to allow the key to turn, you may have to jiggle the key a little in the ignition but it should eventually turn, just remember not to try turning the key too hard, the extra force wont make it go but can cause the key to break. this tends to happen when you turn the car off andthe steering wheel gets locked if the wheels are turned hard in either direction. also if multiple attempts at this still dont work, try taking the key out and turning it over and trying again. Even though both sides of the key are identicle, because of wear on the key and the ignition, sometimes when the wheel locks the ignition, it will only turn if the key is put in a certain way. Hope this helps, good luck

    Key won't turn in ignition

On many vehicles, the key locks the steering wheel. If the wheel is turned, it can keep the key from turning. While trying to turn the key, push the steering wheel hard to the right and if that doesn't work, push the steering wheel hard to the left.

I put my key into the keyhole near the steering wheel so I could start the car, but for some reason my key won't turn, like it's stuck, what can I do to fix that?

Try moving your steering wheel to the left then jiggle the key until it releases, if no luck try the same thing moving the steering wheel to the right, or combination of both ways, If this works then there is nothing to worry about, it can happen almost to any vehicle, you are just in between the wheel locking mechanism and the ignition start or the removal of the key, a common problem in the design of the wheel lock, to prevent it from happening again, just have your steering wheel were you want it before starting or turning off you car. Key won't turn and steering is lock on a 1990 Oldsmobile Calais?

Try to wiggle the steering wheel as you turn the key, the wheel may have some force on the lock so turn wheel to the right and try to turn key then turn left and try the key again. if this doesnt work then the ignition is worn and you will need to wiggle the key to get it to start also try to spary a little wd40 in the ignition key hole and work the key inside the ignition.

My Chevy Cobalt just worked like an hour ago, and now I can put the key into the ignition, but the key won't turn. The steering wheel is locked, it is stuck in park, the wheels are almost straight, and...

Hi, what you need to do is put the key in the ignition then grab hold of the steering wheel then whilst trying to turn the key you need to turn the steering wheel to the left or right it may be a bit stiff but once its moved it should free the lock, so try turning the wheel to the left and right as hard as you can whilst turning the key doing this should free the steering lock and get it started.

also try putting the key in the ignition the other way round and then give it a try.

let me know if you need further assistance ok

plz rate this solution as i have a whole page of unrated posts, thanks

I cant get key or steering wheel to turn on my 99 ford contour

Let me suggest that you try any other key that you have for that car if you have one, sometimes a key can be bent or twisted & no longer work properly. Secondly, you could just have the steering wheel "pinched" into a tight position so you need to turn it left or right to relieve the pressure while you are attempting to turn the key.(it's just a 1/2 inch of movement or so that you're looking to move it while it is locked) If this fails to release the ignition switch & allow you to turn the key on, then there is something either wrong with the ignition cylinder or the ignition switch. good luck
