I would not advise replace anything until proven bad. I would have the computer (ECM and BODY) scanned for codes. and scan data checked.

My 2004 ford explorer sport trac won't turn over and on the display it show bunch of dashes and says check gauges when i turn on the key

sounds like a dead battery , try a jump start ,if it starts have the alternator charge rate checked as if low may have been the cause of the battery going flat, then recharge the battery with a drive of about 20 miles

The "Check Charging System" light came on my 07 Sport Trac. Its been off and on for the passed week. While driving home today my dash, radio, and all electronics turned off while I was driving. I still...

Loose connection or alternator issue. Need to check the battery cables for a bad connection going to the alternator or to ground. That light comes on when voltage to the ECU drops below a threshold voltage. Sounds like a bad alternator. The light come on brighter when the engine is off because there is no other electrical load being drawn from the battery ( no coils or injectors or fuel pump running) Recharge the battery and have a mechanic check the charging system.

On my 1998 v6 explorer, i had my alternator rebuilt twice, have bought a brand new one, which is still on there, replaced the battery with a new one. in-line fuse from alternator to battery is good. system...

Most charging circuits are in two sections, the section that charges the battery and the section that "turns on" the alternator when the engine starts. Your alternator has a built in regulator which is powered by a 15 amp fuse and a 7.5 amp fuse that also handles the gauge on the dash.
These circuits would need to be checked with a meter.

I replace battery and light still illuminated on panel of dash why is this

ON your dash the battery light is not solely related to your battery status. IT represents teh CHARGING system that is inclusive of the battery, alternator, and fuses. Dependent on whether you just changed battery it may have enough charge to keep the car runnign and functioniong but it could possibly not be being fully recharged and as such will decrease its life span. YOu should have a charging system check under load. Take your Ford to the local Autozone, Oreilly, or Advance autoparts and have then run a charging diagnostics on it. If the alternator is not putting out enough voltage the light will come on, even with a new battery. If the alternator tests well, I would look ito belt condition to make sure you arent having slippage causing dips in charging capabilities. Finally, you will need to verify if you are having a drain on the system by a light (glove compartment etc) not going off that can cause a drain. Finally, and simply there are BAD new batteries. So yo umay have gotten one of them. IF you check everyting properly then you should consider changing out the battery to a new one (if yours is under a year old this should be a swap without charge from whom you purchased under warranty)... Good luck.

Most partstores will test battery altenator and starter for free. Either your battery is dead or your connections are not metal to metal contact, or you starter relay may be shot. You can put key in on position and either test with a voltmeter or use a screwdriver and jump terminals on solenoid to see if starter turns.

12.6 is to low. It should be reading 13.8 to 14.5 when the alternator is functioning properly. Sounds to me like you got a bad connection or a bad alternator. hope this helps. good luck.

Charging system on 1997 ford explorer

sorry, probably not. the charging specs need to be checked. with accessories on, ck volts and amps. should be 13.8 minimum volts and around 2-8 amps or so. the only other thing i can think of if it is charging is to ck single thin wire behind alternator for good connection. i believe that is the reading for the dash lite.
