Question about 2002 Hyundai Santa Fe

2 Answers

Is it possible to just disconnect my abs on my 2002 4 cyl. hyundai santa fe, due to lack of financial funds? I have front wheel drive all four tires have it. My abs will come on at random times. brought it to a mechanic he said that some type of a 'ring' is broken. That I will have to replace the whole system or something like that. So I was just wondering why cant i just disconnect them or just take it out, so to speak. PS I am a woman who knows little about cars. lol...thanks for your answer...Denise

Thanks for getting back to me so soon. However, I don't think I explained whats really going on with my ABS. My ABS light NEVER went on at all. Neither the first or second time.
Read on - I explained it better:

The first time it happened the brake pedal kept pulsating and the ABS was making a ticking/vibrating noise which it makes when the ABS goes on.
They only way I was able to stop my vehicle was to pump the brake, which is the opposite of what your suppose to do. Which is to apply steady, constant pressure on the brake pedal until the vehicle has stopped.

I had to drive my truck to the garage and along the way the ABS kept coming on and the only way to stop the truck was to pump the brakes. If I applied constant pressure my truck kept going, which was not good esp when I had to stop at a red light or stop sign. It was very scary, and at one point I was trying to make a U-turn and actually hit a stop sign because my truck wouldnt stop when I needed it to stop. I panicked and it just kept rolling up on the side walk. The stop sign on my left and somebody's fence on my right, and luckily the truck stayed right between them but I scratched my drivers side fender against the Stop sign pole. (Just thought I'd give ya a little

When I brought it in, my mechanic told me that he could sotter the ring in place instead of spending money to replace it, (I have a good mechanic who is actually a friend so i trust him)----However,
I was wondering if its a big job to remove the ABS, or to disconnect the ABS or is it maybe not possible to disconnect/remove them at all, under certain mechanical circumstances?

What are the options to fixing an ABS when the ring breaks? And it has happened on not one
but two of the tires. Both front ones. And its possible that it could happen again, as there is still two more to go. Both back tires as well.

Hope I am not frustrating and bothering you too much with these questions. :)

First it is a ring broke you don't have to replace the whole system. just drive it with the light on because it does not effect your brakes not matter what people tell you

Wow, you've just described EXACTLY what's going on w/ my 2001 Santa Fe. Huge safety concern. I've been reading up on it, looks like there was a recall on the abs for the 2003-4 models but not ours. I just had a friend pull the fuse. I haven't driven it yet, but I am surely keeping my fingers crossed at this point.

The Hyundai Santa Fe is 4X2 or 4X4????? Please.

Hello! the 2002 Santa Fe has optional All Wheel Drive (AWD)...Which is permanent (can not be turned off)...If the option is not on your vehicle then it is Front Wheel Drive (FWD) only...The VIN # will tell you if the option is on your vehicle...

ABS braking system engages at slow speeds or while

Are there any malfunction lights coming on? If so then it could be a wheel speed sensor. sometimes people confuse rotor vibration with abs pulsation.

2006 Hyundai Santa Fe all wheel drive tire replacement

The engineers say all four tires should be same diameter so the transfer case takes no damage. THE question is how much can that partially worn tires mixed with new. Generally if your old pair of tires have half tread or more then match with the same type. If your old pair have less than half tread buy 4 tires of your choice
