Question about 1985 Cadillac Eldorado

1 Answer

My 85 eldorado wont stay running, have to keep on the gas in order to keep it on. i changed the fuel pump recently when it went out, fuel filter and even a automatic throttle solenoid that i thought might have been the problem...is there anything im missing or havent checked? also after i get it driving for a mile or 2 itll stay idling when i come to a stop, then hesitates like it wants to die when i accelerate again ( have to pump the gas)

Could be either throttle position sensor or idle air control. best to pull codes first. also a large vacume leak could this problem. if you have no engine light on, i would look for vacume leak first.

85 HONDA ACCORD WONT STAY RUNNING UNLESS PUMPING GAS NOT EVEN FULL THROTLE

You have a single fuel injector in it right. Try right at the end of the gas pedal cable at the engine there is an electrical plug and a little device that goes around in a circle when the gas is mashed. That is the throttle position sensor. Try unplugging that and if there is no difference in the revving then the throttle position sensor is out. If that is not the problem, then plug your engine into a an onboard diagnostic reader. 85 is an obd1.

I put in bad gas in and it stopped running. i already changed the fuel filter. but now its stalling and running ruff and wont stay running

changing the filter wont get rid of the bad gas ---need to drain tank of bad gas and also re-replace the fuel filter also check the plugs not damaged or plugged

fuel pump may be weak and not able to keep pressure to keep it running. check fuel pressure to see.

Engine wont stay running. Please help.

change the filter first. IF the pumpwas bad it wouldnt start at all. It could be going bad but the only way to really test it is to pull your gas tank and at that rate you may as well replace it.

you could have a clogged injector causing the lack of fuel as well. you can try injector cleaner, Lucas is my personal preference I use it at every fill-up. 4-6oz per tank of gas depending on your tank size.

I filled my car up 2 days ago and all of the sudden my car wont crank but its turning over what do you think this could be. I hear my fuel pump turn on when i put the key in the on posiion.

Just because you can hear the fuel pump run dosent mean its pumping. Does the pump sound any different like maybe a higher pitch humm or a lower grone, It would be best to do a pressure test. Most all the pumps i have chg. went to heck just after it had been filled up with gas.You also could try changing the fuel filter and see if that helps it might be pluged up.

I have a cadallic escadale. It will turn over but wont start.

The fuel pressure should be 60 to 65psi in your system with the engine not running and fuel line primed, (ignition key's to the run position). Once engine is running the fuel pressure should drop by 5psi, change the fuel filter and recheck the fuel pressure at the shredder valve. it's known for the fuel pump to fail when the gas tank runs low or out of gas, the pump will end up burning it self out since the gas is what keeps the electric fuel pump cooled. The other thing to is putting gas through the top of the throttle body to start the engine on the SEFI is a NO NO, well a BIG NO NO. it's been know for the gas in the intake to catch fire and burn up the poppet valve in the injection system causing the replacement of the fuel injection system. Keep me posted and good luck, be gald to help you get your truck running again for the july 4th. OH and it was not mentioned but did the fuel filter get replaced???
