Question about 2005 Nissan Armada

1 Answer

I have a 2005 Nissan Armada with 50k miles. For no apparent reason the brake system went into abs mode greatly reduced braking, and very little engine power. I turned the car off and back on and the car seemed Ok, but the vdc-off, slip, and brake lites came on again. I haul a 6500# trailer with the car, I am afraid to think of the results with the trailer hook on. Since this seems to be related to the VDC system, I driove it some with vdc switched off, and I haven't seen the system malfunction with it off. Will Nissan stand behind this and fix it?

No i doubt it as its 5 yrs old ,now our europen vehicles use encrypted software which means that plugging a code reader in is just a waste of time as it doesnt read anything on vehicles this new so to find the fault you will have take the vehicle to a datsun dealer ,sorry new name nissan .The electronics used is complicated enough as it without being encrypted but this the is the way its going now so only a dealer can repair their brand of vehicle ,you vehicle is going into limp mode when the ABS plays up because the ABS computer is telling the engine management system that the brakes have failed ,sorry just ask at the dealer for an estimate and pay and smile

My abs light is on after I changed my brakes I changed my brakes because the abs was kicking in for some reason unknown and now the light is on and I don't know why 2004 Nissan maxima 3.5 se

If the ABS light is on, it's a good idea to find out what codes are stored.

The OBD-II system allows many codes to be read but a specialist with an ABS BrakeScan tool will be needed in order to find the codes for the ABS system for your vehicle.

I bought a Brakescan tool that works on most Ford, Chrysler, and GM vehicles from 1996 through 2005 but, I don't think it will work with the Nissan Maxima.

So, that's why I would direct you to the dealer for this one.

I have the same problem. I have a 2005 armada. I just went to Gillman Nissan in Rosenburg Texas today with the same thing, When you turn the vehicle off and turn it on again the problem goes away. I paid $241.00 to reset the VDC computer and I still have the problem. Also my backup camera just stopped working. This is my last Nissan auto. I am pissed!!

Sounds like it time to do the brake pads. That is the most likeliest to be the problem. If you have done the brakes it is possible that the clips that holds the pad in place might have slipped or the anti squeal mechanism is hitting the this rotor when the brakes are applied. PLEASE CHECK THEM OUT BEFORE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE COULD RESULT IN A DEADLY CRASH!

Replacing brakes on 2005 nissan maxima

No but thier is an important step to take while doing brakes so that back pressure does not upset or contaminate the ABS.Make sure you clamp the flexible brake hose with a hose line clamp that will not damage hose.Loosen the bleed nipple just enough so that the pressure from the piston being pushed back forces the fluid out.You will notice the color of the fluid is different compared to whats in the master cylinder.Heat destroys whats in and around the brake piston and better to be rid of it than letting it stay in the lines.Once piston is all the way back assemble brake system, undo clamp and bleed as normal,If done right there will be very little air and no brake issues in regard to the ABS.Good luck
