Is this the read window defroster or the windshield defroster? By die do you mean the engine stops running? I suspect a bad electrical ground with the ignition system I so.

Battery new...alternator tests great...but when my tc 2011 is on and I flip the defrost on, the car dies. If I keep the defrost turned to on, it won't start. If I turn it to off, it starts. Any ideas on...

I assume you mean rear defrost, that pulls a lot of current. Your battery seems to be low, so recheck alt and battery and all connections.

2002 Kia Rio the battery keeps dying while the car is running and the lights keep going down in the windshield wipers running real slow its got a six month old alternator the lights and turn signals go...

Charge the battery start the engine and confirm that the voltage at the battery is about 14 volts with engine running . If not it is likely the alternator is bad or the electrical connections from the alternator to the battery are defective.

A significant drain from the battery can be determined by observing the battery voltage after stopping the engine.

If it is under 12 and continues to drop trouble shoot for battery drain. If you suspect the radio pull the fuse and observe.

Honda accord alternator

IF the alternator is not putting out anything. The car will run till the battery is not able to produce enough to fire the ignition, then it will die, It wont restart either. Jumping it will start it for 5 or ten minutes, this is with no warning either.

It's your alternator that may be the problem. Your thinking of the battery is wrong because everything on a running car is run off the alternator. Only if the alternator dies will the car continue to run off the battery-but not for long if any accessories are used. So the alternator runs everything AND recharges the battery until it is needed again to start the car.
Your alternator is barely keeping up with running the car, and is not apparently doing much to recharge the battery. Have the alternator tested.

I would not say for certain it is the alternator-there may be a problem in your a/c circuit. But first test the alternator...BTW, Kinsha, pulling off the neg. cable to check an alternator is as old school as me, but on modern electronics it is considered bad practice-electronics don't like little surges or peaks of power. Buy an inexpensive digital multimeter-it is fun learning as you go.

I am not for sure, but I know a way to check. Start your vehicle and remove the hot side terminal from your battery. If it dies instantly, it is your alternator. If not, it is something else. If the alternator is dead, it will die as soon as you take off the terminal.

One thing that will help a lot is to remember to turn the defroster off before you get home. If you let the windshield cool and freeze while you run the wipers on a slow delay they won't freeze down. Guaranteed.

The other thing is to keep the area where the wipers park clear of snow and ice. Turn the key on, run the wipers until they're all the way up, turn the key off and get your plastic tool and dig that stuff out. Make sure there is somewhere for the water to drain.

as far as the wipers go, it sounds like it's just a loose nut that holds each wiper arm on.
the AC problem sounds like a poor alternator and battery. you should replace your battery, then test the alternator. keep the engine running between 1000 and 2000 rpm and turn on every accessory in the car. radio, headlights, high beams, hazards, ac on high, rear defroster, everything. and read the voltage at the battery. if it dips below about 12.5v dc, replace the alternator. and if you've got an aftermarket stereo with an amp and subs, get a deep cycle battery and try to find an alternator with a higher output.

97 Sentra wipers won't wipe

they have grooves that are supposed to keep them in there. If not, you can place a little bit of silicone type glue to the grooved shaft. If it has no grooves, the only solution is to replace the motor with a known good one. If the wipers freeze during cold winters, some people don't wait to defrost the windshield, they turn on the wipers as soon as they turn on the car. this will cause damage to the wiper motor and or the wipers.doing this enough times the small grooves on the motor shaft will wear down.
