SOURCE: Yellow light on dash with flashing exclamation

Hi !
The Yellow Exclamation Point is the indicator of malfunction in the Power Steering system.
1. Check the Tension of the Power steering Belt.
2. Check Oil level of Power steering , this must be below MIN level.
This is in a white bottle next to Break fluid.

Regards
Berry

You mean the engine block. Depending on the damage, it probably could be welded, but for a 14 yr old car, it may be cheaper to buy a used engine complete.

1999 Mercury Cougar Airbag Flashing off and on

Generally speaking, the flashing light means there is a problem with the system and the air bag has been deactivated.
If the light is flashing in a pattern you can count the flashes and find out what the code is telling you. The codes are available online.
If it is just flashing steady, you would need to take it to a shop and have the system diagnosed.
Keep in mind working on the SRS system is dangerous since you can trigger the air bag if you make any mistakes.

1999 mercury cougar. won't start...cranks...battery ok.

V6 ? 4CYL? Have you verified SPARK? Did anyone check the "fuel pump inertia switch?" Its in the right front kick panel. If it was a "Anti-theft Issue" the light would be on or flashing.

Why is the ''snowflake light'' showing up red in my car?

I have a '99 Mercury Cougar & I've been read somewhere that the snowflakes have to do with the outside temp. & traction. I think it's warning you that it may be slippery or icy. I've noticed that when it's +3 to about -2 or -3, the yellow snowflake shows up. Any anything colder than -3 shows the red snowflake. The other lights: the wrench comes up in yellow. That one has always turned on after a certain amount of km's & it's advising you that your car needs a check-up (that's when I know I should look into getting an oil change). You can turn this light off by holding down the two buttons above & below the 'clock' button. Hold them down together for at least 5 seconds & that wrench light should go off. Otherwise, there is a light for checking your breaks (upside down exclamation mark), low windshield fluid. I can't think of any other ones but I hope this helps.
