Question about 2000 Buick Century

1 Answer

My 2000 Buick Century will not start. It turns over but will not start. Do you know what might be wrong? Always started, always ran well. Stalled today and then would not start.

There could be many reasons why a car won't start. Most common causes is either no fuel or no spark. If there is no fuel and no fuel pressure in the fuel rail, then fuel pump or fuel pump relay may be faulty, or the fuel filter may be plugged.
If there is no spark, then crankshaft position sensor, or ignition module which is what the coil packs and plug wires are attached to may be bad.
Some vehicles are equipped with a fuel pump safety shut off valve on the passenger side kick panel by the feet area that can accidently trip. Do make sure all you fuses including the ones under the hood are good. You can also test any relays with an ohmmeter.

Do you have the correct keys now? The dealership can cut the correct keys off of the VIN number if you have proof of ownership. Without the proper transponder in the key the security system will not allow the car to start.

Engine stalls while driving!

as your description is a little uncertain that is why the answer are a little mixed
however the basis of the description indicates a battery problem , probably loose/dirty battery terminals or loose /dirty ground wire to the engine
check the ground wire condition

I have a 1993 buick century custom. im currently getting 198miles to the tank. at normal idle the car sounds like its being choked of air and trying to stay alive. always starts right up, never stalled and...

recommend you pull the vacuum hose off the fuel pressure regulator at the end of the fuel rail and check for gas in the line. You can plug the hose with a golf tee and start the car, then see if any gas comes out of the vacuum port of the regulator. This would indicate the regulator diaphram has failed and is causing the engine to run rich. Replace the regulator if it leaks gas out the vacuum port. The regulator looks like the below picture.

Need to know were the bank one , sencer one is on my buick century 2000 v6

Oxygen sensors are always numbered like this:
Bank 1 sensor 1
Bank 2 sensor 1
Bank 1 sensor 2
Bank 2 sensor 2

Some manufacturers use a kind of shorthand that reads different, but means the same thing:
Sensor 1/1 or O2s 1/1
Sensor 2/1 or O2s 2/1
Sensor 1/2 or O2s 1/2
Sensor 2/2 or O2s 2/2

Bank 1 is always the side of the engine where cylinder number 1 is located and, of coarse, Bank 2 is the opposite side.
On a 4 cylinder engine, there is only 1 bank and it is always referred to as Bank 1.

Sensor 1 is always the upstream sensor (The one located BEFORE the catalytic converter)
Sensor 2 is always the downstream sensor (the one that is located AFTER the catalytic converter.

Hope helps (remember to rate this).
