Question about 2009 Volkswagen Routan

1 Answer

I have a 2007 VW Touran, recently serviced. After a motorway run using the cruise control I often find the clutch feels as if it had lost all hydraulic pressure and I have to pump the pedal to get the clutch to disengage. The garage doesn't want to know. Any idea what might be wrong?

It might be the brake & clutch fluid wrong because it is too old inside. First time change the brake & clutch fluid. If the problem persists then replace both clutch master hydraulic cylinder and clutch receiver hydraulic cylinder. Bleed also correctly the clutch hydraulic line!

May be unrelated, but could well be a vacuum hose was damaged or knocked loose. Check for loose gas cap too. Use a lenght of hose one end in your ear, other to poke around in engine bay to listen for vacuum leak. CAUTION don't stick hose in fan or other moving parts!

The service manual for the VW Tuareg, uses 26 pages to show how to change the bulb. Lots of words about safety. Warnings for high voltages, high pressure in the bulb and so on. I think it is wise to let a specialist exchange the bulb(s). If one is gone, the second will follow in a few hours.

2003 GTI 1.8T ESP light on and cruise control inoperative.

If the ESP light on the touran stayys on pernamently then it is extremely likely that the ABS control unit is faulty. Its a common problem with tourans, unfortunately the part alone is about £1000.

This is common problem with many vw's
Sounds silly but change the brake light switch under brake pedal.
Often solves the problem (about £8 for switch) will need the light turning out by diagnostic tool.
