Question about 1996 Buick Riviera

1 Answer

At first my car would just die out after running for a little while. So I had let it sit for a couple of days now I have to jump my car everytime I want to start it. I unhooked the mass air flow sensor and it ran for about 20-30 mins. and then died back out. I fully charged the battery and have let the car sit for a couple of days only to have to jump it again. How do you know if its your alternator? Should I just replace that mass air flow sensor?

1991 ford escort battery keeps dying

Check and clean and tighten all battery, starter, and alternator connections. Also the battery and engine to chassis grounds. Did you have the battery " load tested" as a good test requires?
Take the battery out and have it charged up. If the alternator is good, you should not have any more problems. But if you need a jump after a few days to start it, then either the alternator or the battery is just not up to par. Have the alternator tested while on the car and running.
Good luck.

After jumping a dead battery the car will lose power and die while driving. It will however sit and idle without a problem. I did try testing the alternator by removing the positive lead from the battery...

You never jump a dead battery
That is an unsafe act and could
result in an explosion

You must charge any battery fully,
to start any diagnostic proceedure

You never remove either battery cables,
while a vehicle is running, another practice
that will bite you sooner than later

It sounds as though the battery is not
capable of taking a charge and offers
too much resistance to run the car hooked up

Car battery keeps dying, I have to get a jump everytime i turn off the car cuz it wont turn back on. it usually takes a few tries to get it jumped. a couple times i've got it jumped and it turns right back...

it might be the battery...it look like you have an open circuit...or the battery not keeping the charge from the alternator...start with the battery first...

I think I have a bad alternator on my 1992 volvo 940 turbo

Hi!
Start by charging the battery completely. Then, start your car and while running, remove the NEGATIVE battery cable from the battery. If the car dies, your alternator is bad. If it keeps running, reinstall the battery cable and turn the car off. Check for something that's on that would drain your battery like a light in the trunk, glove box, etc. that wont shut off.

Periodically won't run

Couple things First: Check your belt running to your alternator and the tensioning arm( needs to be really tight) If you have a muti meter check the output of your alternator and the voltage of the battery. Does it matter if the engine is hot or cold?

Won't start without jumping

Start the car with engine running remove the + battery cable. If engine continues to run alternator is good and battery is probably bad. If engine dies then alternator needs replaced.
