Yep i have an 89' camero that has a resistor key. You need to call a GM dealer and they can make you a key that should work. Make sure when you call your close to the car they will need to no a couple # that are on the car.

1997 Saturn SL2: Where is the location of the cabin fan relay?

This system does NOT use a blower motor relay. Power flows from the IGN switch to the fan speed switch. Then from the switch to the resistor. Then to the blower motor and to ground #G206.

With the key in RUN, disconnect the electrical connector at the blower motor. Use your volt meter to check for voltage on the purple wire. If you're not getting power and the blower motor fuse is good, then you've got a wiring issue between the motor and the IGN switch. Check for power on the orange wire at the fan speed switch. That power is coming from the IGN switch. If not power, check for power right at the IGN switch on the orange wire. If no power there, you've got a bad IGN switch. If you're getting power, check for good ground on the grey wire. If not ground, clean the ground connection.

1991 Lexus ls 400 sputters when I turn off the ignition

Either fuel is dripping into cylinder after the ign is turned off or you have carbon built up on the valves or plugs and it it hot and ignites the air fuel mix when you turn ign off pull spark plugs and inspect.

My mother has a 93 Pontiac Bonneville that will not start. It turns over, however there is an indicaiton on the dash board that says Anti-theft Device. How can we bypass this or get it to started?

Replace the ign lock cylinder. Or get new cylinder and plug it into the connector from the old lock cylinder at the lower part of steering column. Put old chip key in the new cylinder and hide under dash. Start car with a duplicate key from old key. No need to tear apart steering column ever again for this problem.

1993 Mercedes 280C Ignition key unlocks steering, but won't turn further. Can't start car. What could the be the problem.

it could be a jammed barrel and key within the lgn lock. have you tried "rocking" the steering wheel gently, and at the same time try and turn the ign key?

Visit a lock smith or somewhere like an Ace Hardware store and get a small plastic squeezie bottle of powdered graphite. With a thin flatblade screwdrive or piece of wire, or something similar. Ease the ign key slot cover to one side and direct a few squirts of the powdered graphite into the ignition key switch. Next insert the ign key and GENTLY rotate the key back and forth, as if trying to operate and switch off the ignition. This will give the graphite a chance to penetrate the lock mechanism.

After approx 5mins, try and turn the key as if to start the car. If the barrel refuses to turn as before, then you will need to open up the ign lock and check the base of the barrel .

Do NOT use oil of any form in the lock. Oil attracts dirt like a magnet and will foul the ign lock.

I hope this helps you.

Good luck.

I have a pontiac montana 2003 and lost original ignition key but found a spare I had made at walmart, the van wont start. I can turn the key but it does not crank or even turn over and I tryed to jump it...

Did your factory key have a little black thing on the blade with a wire on each side? I believe you have the PassLock II factory anti-theft system, as this was standard on all models. You cannot use a WALMART key to start the car. You need a factory key with the right resistor in it. Your dealer can look up the resistance you need from the VIN on the car. Some locksmiths may also be able to do this. Get a blank key with the right resistor and have them cut it to match your WALMART key.

99 Alero, key won't turn. If I jiggle for a while it finally will. Ignition is in dash. How hard to replace?

it's possible your key is cut wrong or needs to be filed down a little. is it a new key? you could also try to lubricate the ign. cylinder with some graphite lube before you go and spend money on a new ign cylinder.. best to ask the guys at the parts store what kind to use.

95 riviera wont start

your key has a resistor built in (some call it a chip but it is nothing but a resistor) there are only about 10 different ohmages . On my 95 riviera I still had the key but it was worn. I went to radio shack, measured the resistance of the keys 'chip' and bought a couple of resistors to match the total needed, soldered them in line and bypassed the key "reader". No more problem. Maybe you have the same trouble. One "Pro" said ... "It's not a matter of 'if', but 'when' all GM products in that age group will fail in the ignition security and need attention.

I have a lincoln mk lll won't start when key is on

That should be easy for you. Ign sw,safety sw,ballast resistor if you have one,bad ground at coil. How about starter solenoid wires on wrong terminals. Did the old starter work as wired now!! How about a schematic to make this go away quicker. Iam a 60's guy also like the mk111 . Wife has a 2004 LS

Odd starting problem

hi from uk not sure on your model but if your ignition has ballast resistor ie main ign circuit voltage for running is lower 9volt??? say but for a boost start 12 volts is applied when ignition key start position turning engine over ? ok so far ? your problem may be that the ballast (boost 12v ) circuit has failed this results in how when you have ign on it will start as you release starter and engine still has momentum? datsuns use to suffer with this type of ign but with the opposite effect ie car would fire/ attempt to start on key start but stopped when starter was released their ballast resisror was on n/s inner wing and looked rectangular porcelin block with a coiled resistor wire in side for reducing voltage these used to burn out check h/book on ign system ? hope this is of some help ?
