Question about 1999 GMC Sonoma

1 Answer

I have a 1999 gmc sonoma 4cyl 2.2l. While driving on the freeway it looks like my truck turns off for a split second. All the lights in the dash and all the guages reset as if starting the truck for first time. Battery is good. Alternator is ok. My mechanic friend thinks its the ground strap. any help?

Your friend could be right, bad grounds can cause all kinds of electrical problems. Chech battery to motor and battery to body ground. Also check motor to body ground strap for corrosion under mounting bolts. It may not be visble until you remove the bolt. Good luck

The ground strap should bolt to the engine block and to the frame usually on the passenger side. You can bolt the strap to any bolt on the frame or motor as long as it is clean from rust and corrosion.

Have 1994 GMC Sonoma -- have replaced the fuel pump, fuel filter, ignition, relay, master injector and MAP sensor. Still running rich on both sides; exhaust smells like gas. No leak. Check engine light...

If you have a check engine light, that means there's a trouble code stored. Get the code read and that should give you an indication of where to start

It should be by your fuses either inside or under the hood. It will look alot like one of your relays.

Check all battery connections, and the main power wires. There might be exposed wires that are shorting intermittently. You need to pay heed - that is a serious problem, and can even start a fire and burn it to the ground. You are lucky to get such a warning like that - take advantage of it.

I have a 99, 4cyl, 2.2. My idle is running unusually high. Is there a proper way to reset the computer?

you can reset the computer by removing the ecm fuse for 30 seconds or so, also look for vacuum leaks, main reason for high idle

Air floww only comes out the dash and not the floor

One of your a/c vacum lines is broken its from your intake manifold to a/c your hood and look towards the drivers side on the manifold from the middle you should see a 1/8 air line it runs towards the passenger front.
