On a 1999 Buick park avenue 3.8L. We changed the head gaskets and now it has no compression at all. But if we loosen the rocker arms it has compression. What could be wrong?

The most likely cause would be that the lifters have pumped up while the engine was torn down. This is keeps the valves stuck open, thereby preventing normal compression. You will need to collapse the lifters by applying pressure on them. Normally the pressure applied by the valve springs will do it all by themselves, but at times this must be aided by applying pressure to the pushrod side of the rocker arm with a wooden hammer handle. One other cause could be if the heads were milled while off and they removed too much material. This would mean that the normal stroke of the hydraulic lifter can no longer compensate for the change. In this instance there are shorter length pushrods available, but you would need to source these through a machine shop, as they are not part of a standard engine parts catalog.

My 2008 aveo ls will not start. the serpentine belt broke and we replaced that as well as the battery. then we checked spark plugs and fuses added gas and tried spraying starter fluid into throttle bo

  • Well, if the belt broke, it may have torn some wires loose in the front of the engine. The most likely one that may have been torn loose would be the crankshaft position sensor, which is located near the bottom of the crankshaft pulley. Check wiring and the crankshaft position sensor for quality condition.

How long can a break line be broking before you have no brakes

You have what is called a diagonal brake system. What that is, you have two brake systems on one brake pedal. One system controls the lt. front and rt rear and the other controls the rt. front and lt. rear. If a line line breaks that system stops working. This system was set up to cause uniform braking. With a line broke you are only stopping on two wheels. If you get into a panic situation you will not stop in time and could suffer great loss. GET THAT LINE FIXED NOW.

I broke the head off of a bolt while trying yo replace my water pump. Any ideas on how to get the bolt out? Its a 1986 Ford F-150...5.0 Liter...302 V-8

if the head of the bolt is still a little visable, you can take a pair of vice grips , and lock them onto the remaining of the bolt and remove it, or if the head of the bolt is not visable, then you need to drill a small hole into the center of the bolt , and screw in a easy out, and then turn the easy out, < counter clockwise , to the left > and hope fully the bolt will start turning , and then you can remove it, but don't use too small of a easy out, or it will break off inside of the bolt. these easy outs can be purchased at auto part stores. also, i have seen people heat the bolt up "just a little with a torch, before removing the bolt.
