Question about 1987 Ford Bronco II

1 Answer

Fuel system isn't working all pumps have been replaces along with the relays we know they work they have been tested we wired them directly to the battery they come on and don't shut off the motor will fire if fuel is poured into the intake we have fuel in the fuel rail from wiring them directly to the battery still won't fire think the injectors are inactive which would explain why it don't fire what sensor controls the fuel system or what is the problem we are stumped its a 1987 ford bronco 2 with a 2.9

You can test them while cranking it over.

You can go to autozone. com and register for a free account. Then login, choose year, make, model of your bronco. Then click on view repair manual. It will tell you all the component locations and how to test them and how to replace them. As a 10+ year mechanic myself, I find it quite useful

Oh yes, the fuel pressure regulator. Sorry I though I had mentioned that. Guess not. This can prevent it from starting. If by chance it did start it would run like **** and your pedal would have to be floored even to keep it barely running.

Signs of a Bad Fuel Pressure Regulator

    • The vehicle engine runs rough and often stumbles and sputters.

    • The vehicle engine will not start after ignition. Usually, this is
problem is encountered in the morning when you start your vehicle. Many a
times, the engine starts, but stalls shortly after starting.

    • The fuel pump in the vehicle becomes noisy at times.

    • A bad fuel pressure regulator can also result in fouled spark plugs.

    • Last but not the least, the fuel mileage of the engine decreases noticeably.

For testing, use a pressure guage.

ignition. Others have a jumper port. If neither of these options is
available then connect the gauge and start the vehicle. Be ready to turn
the engine right back off in case of fuel leaks. Monitor pressure at
      idle.
Disconnect the tester. Be prepared for pressurized fuel with a rag or
catch container. If the engine is hot wait until things cool down first.

I have a 1997 caillac catera i just replaced the feul pump and both fuel pump relays.but im not getting any power to the pump

Who is doing this work ?

Can not see the relays needing to be replaced
Did you even test them,if not why replace them?

Why the fuel pump?
Was that tested or it just seized up mechanically
or stopped electrically?

Before you can continue, you need a wiring diagram,
to learn the fuel pump circuit

When you have that down, you will have picked test
points for your volt meter & live voltage drop tests, as
well as ground side testing

You will also see on the print what else in the vehicles
systems, may have to be complete, in order for the fuel
pump relay to come on

You can power the pump direct from the relay socket,
if you read the wiring diagram & have no other wiring
problems from there to the pump & ground

Rather then just replacing parts testing the fuel pump electrical circuit is the proper way to diagnose . Do you know how to use a DVOM - digital volt ohm meter , how to use a wiring diagram to pin point testing points in a electrical circuit ? How to use voltage drop testing in a circuit to find which part of the circuit has the problem B+ or ground side . Yes it can be very agrivating if you don't know what your doing . Testing for power at the relay an testing for control . The PCM - engine computer controls the fuel pump relay !

Where is the Fuel Relay located on a 94 Oldsmobile Bravada?

the fuel pump relay is on the driver side firewall its a bracket with two relays on it. the relay closes to the fender is the one for the fuel pump. if you want to do a quick test of the relay is to run a jumper wire from orange wire to the grey wire you pump should start working.if it does work then replace the relay. if it doesnt work. run a jumper wire from the battery to the grey wire if the fuel pump still doesnt work replace the fuel pump, however if it does work you have a short in you wires. a good back yard fix for this problem is to run a wire from the battery to the orange wire. hope i didnt confuse you let me know if you need more help.

Intermittent fuel pump engagement when turning key - 2001 Taurus

try cleaning the connector that goes to the fuel pump, sometimes they corrode on inside. If that does not fix, test the wires feeding fuel pump with a multi meter until the condition shows itself again, if voltage drops to zero or very low then wiring problem, if voltage is unchanged with problem and fuel pump is not working and connectors are all clean, try replacement of fuel pump.

If pump does not work when power is directly applied, then pump will need to be replaced. Have you tested the power from the fuel pump relay?

95 fuel pump replaced twice still fails, works

you may want to check on the wiring. also test on the pumps if they go bad after replacement by bypassing the relays and connecting it to the battery. Either way it may still be the wiring. The bad wires or connection and even relay may send intermittent power to the pump. IT could also have fried your pump should it not work when directly connected.

94 dodge grand caravan no fuel in fuel rail

Dear Ron, you have replaced fuel pump and fuel filter. You have checked the fuel pump relay. Still no fuel in rail. Try bypassing fuel relay with jumper from batt to fuel pump. If o/k then check computer for ground to relay. This system uses a relay that is operated by the computer that supplies a ground for the relay to operate. The wire color is green,16 gage. If the ground is not available then "no fuel" Check this with a test light. Key on and crank apply test light to ground wire and other end of light to ground. You should hear relay click and get fuel. If this checks out you will need to replace computer or get creative with rewiring the relay so it works without computer input. Good luck Moe
