Question about 1994 Chevrolet C1500

1 Answer

I have 1994 Chev. Pickup w/AC. The A/C got warm, I filled with newer type freon. Did nothing. Clutch stopped cycling. Found out how to jump condenser after refill. Tried to do this but the power control went blank, as if no power to the control. Checked relays because they cycled the clutch a lot, I thought maybe bad relay. Installed new relay from chev parts, no difference, put old back. Tried new /used control and no power either. Checked all power sources with test lamp had power up to control, pluged in different control , no go. What is next to solve? Please help me! Thanks. John G. Conn.

Hi! The closest thing to resolve this is to replace the control switch but since you tested it, turns out to be good but still no go. I suggest that you clean the contacts of the control switch for it may be corroded and loosing its contact. Please try this and see how it goes. Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa!

The pressure switch is right next to the battery negative terminal. To bypass the switch, remove the connector and use a paperclip to jump the terminals inside the connector. By the way, you need to put oil in the system, or the seals will quickly dry out.

I have freon, and there are no leaks and had a air compressor put in 2 years ago but my car is blowing hot air only

There are a few things that can cause this. First off, make sure that the compressor is turning on when you turn on the AC switch. With the AC on full blast, look at the engine, locate the compressor and make sure that the center hub (the clutch) is spinning, not just the pulley around it that the belt rides on.

If the clutch is not spinning, or if it cycles on and off repeatedly, then your AC compressor is not functioning properly. This could be due to a failed compressor or to a low level of freon in the system.

If the clutch is spinning, then the next thing you should check is your freon level, get a temperature-dependent basic freon gauge, (like the one I posted in the link at the bottom) hook it up, set the outside air temperature on the gauge and then it will show you the ideal freon pressure level. What most people do not know is that having too much freon in a system will cause it to blow just as warm as an under-filled system. The freon level has to be in the "sweet spot" for it to properly work.

If your freon is at the proper level and your AC clutch is on and functioning then it could possibly be the AC switch in your instrument panel, or one of a couple of different parts in the engine compartment, but 90 percent of the time the problem will be found within the bounds of what I just listed. Good luck!

What would make the AC clutch turn on an off repeatedly, approximately every 4 seconds on an 99 chevy Suburban 5.7L 4x4 LT? Only blows out hot air

low freon soumds to me.. jump out the low pressure cut out switch near the dryer...or jump clutch relay in the distribution center. with clutch ingauged hook up guages to check low and high side pressures... also easy trick go to auto store get a can of 134a freon with hose and add the can the clutch should stay inguaged longer and longer as you fill the sytem... with clutch inguaged rev motor up to 1500 the guage on the hose should be around 35 to 40 pounds if low add more
