Question about 2005 Ford F-150

For f150 2006 passenger side makes a clacking noise when making a left turn. already replaced brakes, rotors, ball joint, already spent too much and truck still making the same noise. help

Check those motor mounts....engine may be ******* allowing coolant fan to strike something like shroud.

If you hear a clacking sound esp. while turning. Sound like your CV joints (constant velocity) or Front Wheel Drive axle.

My 2002 ford expadition is still making the grinding whoop whoop noise, I took it to a machanic and they said it was the roter or brakes or ball joints, so I got all replaced on both sides and it is still...


If the noise only happens when you are moving, and it changes with the speed of the truck, its something that is connected to the wheels.
Road speed does not affect suspension noises like ball joints and spindles.
So it would be something like the brakes, axle joints or bearings, or something in the differential where the axles come together.
If the truck is 4wd you have front hub bearings behind the brake rotors, and regular bearings if it is 2wd.

Noise in the front lower passenger side


It sounds like your rotors are warped. Do you feel a pulsation in the brake pedal as it's happening? I really haven't seen ball joints or links go out on those cars.

I have a knocking as i do long left hand turns from the front nearside of the car (2003 x type jag) worse if someone sat in passenger seat


There are several components that could cause noise from the front when turning. I am assuming when you say the Front nearside you are saying the fromt left wheel is where the knocking is comming from when making a left turn. The components to be concerned about are, Wheel bearings, Ball Jionts, Tie rod Ends, CV joints and brake rotors.
Wheel Barrings:
Jack the car up under the control arm until the wheel is off the ground about 3 inches. Slide a pry bar ybder the tire and place the other hand on the top of the tire. As you lift and lowere the pry bar fell for loose movement in the tire. If there is such movement you have a bad wheel bearing.
Ball Joint:
Repeat the test above and watch the upper and lower ball joints for movement. Is there is movement replace the bad ball joint.
Tie Rod ends:
With the tire still off the ground grip the tire in the front and back and rey to move it as if your were trying to turn the tire. Watch the tie rod ends for loose movement. If they are loose replace them.
CV joint:
The Joint is housed in a rubber boot. If you can feel the joint inside the boot you can turn the tire forward and back and feel for play in the joint. If you are not able to feel the play you can loosen the clamp on the boot and push the boot out of the way. Then repeat the test.
Brake Rotors. Inspect the brakes for wear and any signs of pitting or grooves in the rotors.
You need to take this seriously because if you have a Ball joint or tie rod end break while driving, it will cause a wreck.

Grinding noise in 2001 cavalier 2.2 engine replaced left front hub noise is still there. how difficult to replace left cv joint?


If you still think the noise is coming from the left side CV joint it would be more advisable to replace the entire axle as an assembly. For the time and effort it takes, you can usually get a rebuilt axle assembly for only a few dollars more than the CV joint and the boot required to repair one. You will need a large axle nut socket (usually 30 - 32mm) to remove the axle nut. The lower ball joint and tie rod will need to be separated along with the brake caliper and rotor, from the spindle. I would recheck the grinding noise before doing it. A lot of wheel bearings are mistakenly diagnosed to the wrong side. If the noise is loudest when turning left, most people would assume the left side wheel bearing is at fault. However if the noise is loudest turning left it indicates the right side wheel bearing is most likely at fault. Due to the weight distribution of the front end, turning left the weight all transfers to the right side, loading that bearing. Make sure thats not the case before tackling an axle.

Bad upper or lower ball joint. tire vibrates when applying brakes and hear clacking sound when turning left on the passenger side (right)


It sounds more like a brake problem. Put a jack under the lower A frame close to the tire. Jack it up just enough to get the tire of the ground. Wiggle the tire from top to bottom, if it doesn't move then you will need to rebuild the callipers and replace the brake pads. Have you rotors checked. If their not round it could cause alot of these problems.

Left turns sometimes makes knockin noise seems left front, i see that the outside of that tire is worn too. I had front brakes/rotors replaced and seems since then it was happenin but not always


Could also be the upper ball joint, put a jack under the lower control arm and jack the left wheel off the ground, the trick is to try to get it at normal ride hight, grab the tire at the top and bottom and try to push and pull the top in and out inline with the ball joint. have a helper eye the ball joint and see if there is any motion(play) at the joint. If not, check the bottom the same way. if they are both good, try it side to side to check the tie rods for play, make sure the steering wheel is locked. if all checks good than it is probably the cv joint if the truck is four wheel drive, if it is not four wheel drive it's definately is not a cv joint because you don't have them. For the four wheel drive model, go to a large parking lot, put the truck in a tight left turn, this will stress the cv joint, making it click, you will hear the noise from the side with the bad joint. Then tru a hard right turn, then do the same things again, this time driving in reverse. Loud squeek when hitting a bump and especiaLLY WHEN TURNING the steering wheel. when breaking car pulls to the left.


You may have bad lower ball joints.This a very common problem with theses cars .There is no way to grease them so the start to bind up after a while .If the squeak is there while turning the wheel and sitting still while doing this then suspect lower ball joints .
